Come here if you want a calm and beautiful place to relax and exhale from your usual routine and life. Michael and Irina are gracious hosts and very willing to help in any way. They have built a beautiful space to share with attention to every detail. We spent so much time on the deck having coffee in the morning, watching the sunsets at night, listening to the jungle sounds of monkeys and birds and insects. The pool is a perfect place to cool off and watch birds and butterflies, after a hot day at the beach. Michael showed us around the property, highlighting the flora and fauna. It is a paradise!
Michael had great recommendations for things to do, including the family-run Palo Verde Boat Tour. It's about a 1.5 hour drive to the family lodge and then a 90 minute boat tour in which you will see crocs, monkeys, huge iguanas, and tons of birds. And the lunch after was the best food we had in Costa Rica. It's also close to the village of Guatil where there are potters that continue in the same ancient pottery making techniques of the ancestors. Look for Pottery of the Chorotega.
The only thing to be aware of is the road up to the property. Definitely rent a 4X4! We've traveled Costa Rica before and were aware of the road conditions, which can be nerve-wracking, so we weren't put off. But for first-timers, be prepared for all travel to take much longer than anticipated. I also would not try to find this property in the dark.
I would return without hestitation!
