Take a Trip into Barcelona's History

Visitors to Barcelona will be amazed at the various historic and modern attractions to enjoy, which include towering structures like the Barcelona Cathedral, museums filled with the artwork of surrealist masters like the Picasso Museum and Fundacio Joan Miro, as well as a number of beautiful parks.

The Sagrada Familia is probably the most iconic of Barcelona’s attractions and was designed by the famous local architect Antoni Gaudi, who also designed the nearby Park Guell. Though this neo-Gothic church is considered to be unfinished, its ornate architecture, statues, carvings, and lighting, make it a marvellous site to encounter.

Explore Antoni Gaudi’s Masterpiece the Sagrada Familia

Forget what you know about churches, because the Sagrada Familia is truly like nothing else you've seen before. Construction started in 1882 but progressed slowly, relying on private donations to fund it. Contruction was interrupted during the Spanish Civil War, but resumed intermittent progress in the 1950s. 134 years after construction began. the Sagrada Familia's still not complete, but is scheduled to receive its finishing touches in 2026. Unlike your usual Gothic-designed church, Gaudi's design is far less stark, with its towers almost resembling plants climbing toward the sky. It's also famous for its three facades; the Nativity, that represents the birth of Christ; the Passion, which represents Christ's suffering during the crucifixion; and the Glory that represents the road to God. Its colourful cubist inspired interior is also quite a sight to behold.
