It is located by a nice creek and a lovely little public playground which my kids had great pleasure taking adventures around. "Pension Barbara is a very cosy and clean pension right next to the paths leading up to The Brocken. The hostess was very sweet and attentive, and we had a good stay. Schierke as a town is a bit dated and quiet in the autumn, when we visited. Is was difficulty to find a place to just have a couple of drinks etc. The national park, Brocken and paths are all excellent for a short hiking-holiday. Great nature, chalenging paths (if you want it), nice restaurant on the summit."

"We booked 3 nights in a hotel apartment. The first night we spent in a small room and it was not the same apartment we booked, the reception closes at 1pm so we couldn't do anything. The next day we spoke to the only receptionist there who couldn't speak English and was using a translation app, she admitted the mistake and promised to try to exchange the room for an apartment or deduct the city tax which is a very small amount! "We stayed in one of their tiny houses. It was very clean and nicely decorated. There was a sturdy version of a double-bed bunkbed style, a nice bathroom, a kitchen with a tiny dishwasher, a dining room/sitting area. Plus there was a lovely furnished patio area with each tiny house. There was an air conditioner (did not get it to work), but there were also automated loft windows which were fantastic at cooling down the place. Along the beautifully landscaped path to the tiny houses there was a grass area to air-out the dog and a small playground for small children. The hotel breakfast was amazing with various pâtés, fish, bacon, eggs, yogurt and fresh fruit and fresh bread. It was staffed by an amazing group of ladies. The restaurant/bar was pretty and relaxing. Well done!"
