Rovinj Harbour

Be delighted by the charm and authenticity of this pretty little Istrian harbour, around which you will find cobbled lanes, historic buildings and excellent restaurants.

Rovinj Harbour forms the heart of the beautiful town of Rovinj. Around the little harbour, where tiny colored fishing boats bob gently, cobbled lanes are lined by Venetian-era houses. Soak up the tranquil atmosphere, admire the Old Town buildings and linger over a dinner of fresh seafood as you watch the sun set over the Adriatic Sea.

Rovinj is one of Istria’s top destinations, and rightly so. The character-filled peninsula has retained its old-world charm, mainly thanks to its bustling and still active fishing harbour. The old buildings, packed tightly together in the maze of lanes which lead down to the harbour, are a pastel-hued mishmash. In between you will find churches and squares galore. See an amazing panorama of the harbour from the 18th-century St. Euphemia Cathedral, a Baroque church on a hill overlooking the Old Town.

The harbour is one of the Mediterranean’s last real fishing ports. Every day the little wooden boats chug out into the open seas and return with the freshest catches. See the boats rising and falling on the gently sloshing sea when the day is over and the sun is setting. Yet Rovinj isn’t famous only for delicious fish and seafood. Truffles are highly prized here and many local chefs delight in creating Italian-inspired traditional meals that combine this flavorful ingredient with the fruits of the sea. Take a seat at one of the many harbour-side restaurants to enjoy incredible scenery and mouth-watering meals. Be sure to try the tagliatelli mare e monti (pasta with prawns and truffles).

Visit the food market, located within the harbour, to see stalls piled high with colourful fruit, vegetables and incredible truffles. The produce originates in the forests of Motovun and forms the basis of many delectable dishes and products.

Rent a bike from the stores located in Rovinj Harbour and explore the car-free Old Town at leisure.

Fly into Pula, the closest airport to Rovinj Harbour. From here, access the town by private transfer or by public transportation.
