Too much construction noise

Posted 02-Oct-2015
Pros: Location, price
Cons: Alert guests prior to booking about the construction
Location: Beach, Manuel Antonio National Park trails
The hotel was conveniently located adjacent to Manuel Antonio National Park; however, there was a major construction project going on (even the lobby was affected), and the noise, dust, and workers were very disruptive. Although we were placed in a nice room which was away from the pool construction, the noise started very early and it was impossible to avoid the site of the work. Construction workers were smoking everywhere on the premises during their breaks, which made it even worse.

Great location, great staff!

Posted 31-Aug-2015
Pros: It's steps from Manuel Antonio National Park and a short walk to the beach. Views range from nice to spectacular.
Cons: Some reviewers complained of a musty smell in the room. You're between the rain forest and and the Pacific Ocean; humidity isn't the hotel's fault!
Location: Manuel Antonio is a small but beautiful national park. Canopy tour/ziplining is a MUST -- spectacular! Villa Vanilla tour was an unexpected delight.
We're from Orlando, so Disney is our standard for customer service. Our experience at Hotel San Bada was at or near Disney standards...and at least once, exceeding them! The staff was friendly and helpful without being cloying or in your face. Questions were answered quickly and accurately by fluently bilingual staff (and those who were not fluent in English instantly found you someone who was). Problems were resolved speedily and without fuss (e.g., my spouse was feeling ill one evening and we wanted to try and reschedule the excursion set for the next day -- it was done in literally a minute). The food and drinks were excellent, and the room was comfortable and lovingly maintained.

Great Location!

Posted 19-Aug-2015
Pros: The location was great. So nice being right next door to the national park and loved seeing all the monkeys!
Cons: Coffee pot in room was dirty with old coffee still in carafe. Iron in room would be nice. Every time we used shower, the entire floor in bath flooded.
Location: Location is great. Loved being able to walk to national park, shopping, restaurants nearby
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel San Bada. Our trip in Costa Rica began with our car ride from the airport where we were picked up by Shaggy who works at the hotel. He is a great tour guide who genuinely seems to enjoy his job. He made a couple stops on the way to the hotel to let us try local coffee and get snacks and then took us to the crocodile bridge to see the enormous crocodiles swimming below. When we arrived at the hotel, we were able to upgrade our room from the 2nd floor to the 5th floor (for no extra charge due to the # of nights we were staying) so that we could have a view of the ocean from our balcony. I highly recommend a room on the 5th floor so you can have a good view of the monkeys high in the trees as well as being able to see the ocean. We loved watching (and hearing) the howler monkeys and squirrel monkeys playing in the trees just outside our balcony. It's really nice being right next door to the entrance of the national park where you walk through the rainforest and end up at the beach. The beach is not as beautiful as Destin, Fl, but is still very pretty. There are a lot of rocks (some quite large) between the sand and water which is different from beaches we've been to. I highly recommend the horseback tour offered by the hotel which is through the mountains. Ours was guided by Shaggy, and we had a fabulous time! We so appreciated him on our trip as he was very kind, accommodating, and enthusiastic throughout. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!

Nice hotel close to rainforest and beach.

Posted 01-Aug-2015
The hotel is located at the entrance of Manuel Antonio National Park and a two minute walk to the beach! The staff is excellent and so friendly. I have stayed there 2 years in a row and will go back. The property has 2 pools with a swim up bar at one and a bar at the other. The hotel also offers adventures that are great! We went zip lining, white water rafting, and horseback riding with Shaggy who was the best tour guide.

Convenient to Manuel Antonio park

Posted 23-Jul-2015
Great view from 6th floor bar. Most staff are top notch and willing to help with anything you may need. Francisco and Derek were great. Iguanas were all over to entertain the kids. Grounds were beautiful and there is a short cut to the beach. If you need a special bed to sleep on your back may suffer

Great hotel and loved the staff!

Posted 22-Jul-2015
Pros: The views, staff and breakfast every day was great!
Cons: The floors in the suite creak a bit but everything else was absolutely perfect!
Location: You could walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. And, from the rooftop bar, you could watch the monkeys.
Upon booking the trip, I contacted the hotel directly to ask about tours and Marylin arranged everything! It was absolutely amazing! To top it off, with last minute luck, we were able to catch the first flight out on standby and they were even able to get the driver there on time with just a quick message to them and they upgraded us to a suite which was stunning!
