Pocket Guide: Salisbury

Salisbury is a medieval city packed with plenty of things to see and do, as well as some of the best hotels in all of Wiltshire.

Salisbury Attractions

Salisbury Cathedral is undoubtedly the main attraction in the medieval city. The 13th century building is one of the country's most iconic religious buildings. The crooked spire rises to over 400 feet, making it the tallest in the United Kingdom. Indoors, visitors can see an original copy of the Magna Carta - one of only four in the world.

The Salisbury Museum is a great place to visit at the beginning of your trip, giving you an idea of the historical gems that lie in and around the city. Old Sarum is likely to be high up on your list, as is the world-famous Stonehenge, which is around eight miles outside of Salisbury. The city centre is also home to plenty of excellent independent shops, bars and restaurants.

Hotels in Salisbury

As the only city in the county, it's no surprise that Salisbury features some of the finest hotels in Wiltshire.

Grasmere House Hotel is located on the edge of town, beside the river. Offering childcare and babysitting services, the hotel is popular with visiting families. Those drawn to period buildings will be bewitched by Milford Hall Classic Hotel - a Georgian property located on the other side of the city.

Intimate Bed and Breakfasts

Some of the most enchanting places to stay in Salisbury are the smaller guesthouses and B&Bs. Sarum Cottage is a peaceful B&B, situated just ten minutes' walk from the cathedral. There's free WiFi throughout the hotel and a meeting room is available for visiting professionals and corporate guests.

The Chapter House is an inn in the centre of town, set within a quaint old building. Again, there's free WiFi and some space for meetings and conferences, making it ideal for business events.
