The Area:
Safe, residential, tree-lined street in Portland's hottest area! Lovely and quiet, but just a few blocks from the newest section built up on Division St! A short walk will take you to food cart pods in two directions (50th and Division St. and Carts on Foster.) Also Green Zebra grocery, Plaid Pantry (convenience store), Good Coffee, Fern Kitchen, Petite Provence Patisserie, North Bar, Landmark Saloon, Los Gorditos, Bete Lukas (Ethiopian), Tokio Table (Japanese Hibachi), Siri Thai, and so much more! Keep walking west on Division, and you will hit everything on Portland's "Restaurant Row", including Tasty and Daughters, Pok Pok, Ava Gene's Salt n Straw, etc! The Richmond district is one of the most exciting and diverse areas in Southeast Portland. A longer stroll will take you to the Hawthorne District, which is not technically a designated area- but the locals all know where it is. The Hawthorne area is packed with trendy shops, restaurants, cafes, book stores, thrift stores, massage, tattoo, and other things unique and creative. It’s a very alternative area. You will also be walking distance to several parks... the best being Mount Tabor, where you can catch one of the best sunsets in Portland! If you have a child, there is a lovely playground on top of the extinct volcano.
You have probably wondered if Portland is really like the show Portlandia. Come to this area and decide for yourself. It is a great place to people watch, and everything is eclectic! From the clothing stores to the restaurants.
I think an interesting quote that tells a lot about the atmosphere and lifestyle of Richmond, is taken from travelportland.com "The area is a grid of alternating residential blocks and commercial streets, offering an amazing balance of the best of Old Portland architecture, mature tree-lines streets, and easy access to the most popular gathering spots, the Hawthorne and Division districts. There seem to be more unique and colourful bungalows along the streets in Richmond than in any other area in town, and the density of amazing restaurants, coffee shops, bars, bookshops, theatres, and boutiques is unsurpassed. Less than 2 miles to Portland Providence Hospital.
Getting Around:
This is the absolute best location for public transit! The #71 (which runs north-south) is only one block away, and the #9 (east-west) is just a few streets away, and both run frequently. Trimet can take you anywhere in the city, and is a quick way to get city centre. This location is also incredibly bike-friendly and a walker's paradise. It has a bike score of 100 and a walk score of 90! I lived in Richmond without a car for many years, so your visit can be wonderful without a car, too.

The property was so cute and the location was perfect for our needs. There were normal older-house noises (creaking wood, can faintly hear conversations upstairs), which are noted in the listing and remedied by the noise-reducing items for use (white noise machines, ear plugs, box fan)! I appreciated that coffee was available to make and the robe in the bathroom was a nice touch. Would definitely stay again!
It was lovely. Would stay again. A bit of noise from upstairs. But all in all, pleasant

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disliked: Listing accuracy
Downstairs apt. was clean and in a quiet neighborhood. That said, think Bongzilla lived above. Smell of skunky weed permeated the apt. and plenty of loud activity until past midnight. Think if you expect others to be quiet by a certain hour, maybe the host should expect the same of themselves.
Apartment was fine. Street level. Quiet neighborhood. It is a basement unit so you do hear the family above from time to time. Basic items are there. We selected this unit over others mostly because it had a king size bed. They could use some blankets as it only had a sheet and light comforter. It could also use fold away luggage racks so you had a place to put your luggage. No dresser. There is only a tiny dining table, this is set up for max of two people. Did not see host. We would probably stay again.
I like the highland bull and the horse pictures on the wall. I also appreciate that there were television options besides Network TV and commercials. The place was clean, quiet, and comfortable.
Because we are asked to separate trash from recyclables, it would be good if the property provided receptacles for recyclables.
There was very limited communication between the office and me before I arrived. But then the office emailed me each day, which was excessive. I don't need to be reminded each day regarding check out expectations.
I had booked this place for my employees to stay, the first night I was not sent the check in code and reached out several times to try and get it. There was no answer and they didn't get back to me till the next day, we had to get a hotel that night!!! After all of that my employee said they were up all night and being very loud, so much so that he got no sleep. There was earplugs on a table next to a sign that said "we might get loud." They got no sleep and they couldn't even stay there the first night! Grossly unprofessional!
