El Taj Ocean features a Bali & Tahitian theme with 40 luxury units, with either private balconies, patios or roof decks. Some have outdoor kitchens. El Taj Ocean is the proud recipient of TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award for top hotels in Mexico. It was also chosen as one of the top luxury hotels in Mexico, in addition to one of the trendiest hotels. Playa del Carmen has no other hotel that has won all these top three categories. El Taj has also received recognition from The New York Times and USA Today for its design, luxury, and excellence in service. Great location (on the beach, 1.5 blocks from 5th Ave., and in the Premier Zone of Playa). This is a beautiful property with a private beach club (Asi Beach) with food and beverages service. It is closest to the beach and only 1 bedroom condo to have a large private balcony off the master bedroom as well as a terrace off the kitchen and living room. Property is a boutique condo/hotel with the advantages and spaciousness of a condo and services of a hotel. You’ll be able to watch the sunrise over the water. There are marble floors from the terrace, throughout the unit. The high ceilings and private balcony enhances the viewing pleasure of the Caribbean setting. Guests are welcome at Asi Beach Club, located onsite, and have complimentary use of The Gym, located 1 block away at Porto Playa. . The large master bedroom has a view of the water and beach, 'heavenly' king-sized bed, flat screen television, closets, and safe. The living room has windows facing the beach and water plus two huge sliding glass doors leading out to the private terrace. Location was very good. The biggest disappointment was that we paid a premium to be on a beach that we could walk and there was no beach. The little piece that they call a beach had maybe 10 lounge chairs on it all on a slant that you could slide off the chair because of the steepness. You could not walk into the water because of all the rocks and boats. This was one of our prime objectives when we rented the place and we were told we could walk on the beach, but there was no beach. This was very disappointing. We had to walk almost 3/4 of a mile carrying chairs, umbrellas, and coolers to get on the beach. ##### gregory s. The kitchen in our one bedroom unit was well stocked, with pots, pans, a sizable refrigerator, oven/stove and microwave. Washer/dryer worked well (washer does have an agitator) comfortable, sizable bedroom and bathroom. My only "negative" (it wasn't for us) is that the beach in front of El Taj is essentially non-existent. What little exists is taken up by the small club table and chairs (with access for paying customers only) no loungers and no walkable area. I don't fault El Taj, beach erosion is real. The public beach entrance is a couple of blocks away, between the Hyatt and Wyndham hotels if you want to map it. Not an issue for us but a consideration if you are traveling with children and all of their stuff. We were at El Taj Ocean and the pool is nice but small, with maybe a half dozen loungers. Larger pool is across the street. Overall highly recommend! ##### Bridget H. Great if you want to be in walking distance to pretty much anything you would want to do in the city. Beautiful grounds and really nice rooms. I don't usually leave reviews but this place deserves one! The room was gorgeous and had everything we needed and more. Having a washer and dryer in a beachfront room was such a wonderful treat! This room was steps away from the restaurant, pool and beach. The hotel facilities were gorgeously landscaped - a complete jungle paradise! Nice location near the heart of PDC, many delicious restaurants in walking distance. Sargassum is all over the beaches, but that is not something that any of us can control just something to note if you’re staying in the potential sargassum bloom season. Pool and jacuzzi very nice. Photos and description very accurate. Coffee in condo delicious. All employees friendly, kind, and helpful. ##### Breece P. A short 1.6 mile taxi ride to ferries of Isla mujeres and Cozumel. Dive shop across the street with boats leaving to dive snorkel or fish daily docked off beach. We will be using this as the beginning and end days on our way to and from Tulum. Staff is all fluent in English and Andreas is superb in literally going and running for ANYTHING you want. Please tip them well! Great shopping as well. Very strict on quietness after 10 Louis in the restaurant is awesome too. ##### Lee T. The entire property is immaculately kept and very lush. The Balinese-inspired decor and feel of the place helped create a nice refuge from the hecticness of PDC. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping and bars. Right on the beach. Great. The only issue was there was a huge seaweed problem.
