Bed and Breakfasts in Pickering

The historic market town of Pickering lies at the foot of the mighty North York Moors National Park, and is often referred to as the "Gateway to the Moors". It's one of the oldest towns in England, with origins that date back to at least 200 BC. It's a pretty town, made up of a jumble of Victorian stone-built houses spanning both sides of Pickering Beck, and punches well above its size when it comes to attractions and things to do. Most visitors come to stay in Pickering bed and breakfasts to go hiking along the spectacular trails in the nearby park, but those who spend a day in town find fascinating museums, a heritage railway and numerous independent shops, not to mention a variety of pubs and restaurants.

  • Stay in homely comfort when you return from a day on the moors
  • Enjoy immaculate service due to the limited number of guests
  • Save on the cost of a hotel room
  • Start the day right with a full English breakfast

Victorian Terraces, Rural Retreats and Traditional B&Bs, Pickering

Though there are several hotels in the town, the bed and breakfasts in Pickering have always been the accommodation of choice for weekend visitors and outdoor adventurers. There's no better place to kick off your muddy boots and warm up than the cosy environment of a B&B. To find your perfect place to stay, fire up Expedia and search by price, date and location to find a list of properties, complete with descriptions and candid photos. Once you've found the right place, booking is easy and completed in a few clicks. Some are traditional B&Bs which, charmingly, haven't changed much over the last few decades. Others are swisher affairs, filling renovated Victorian houses, and come with walled gardens and parking facilities. Alternatively, you could always opt for one of the country cottages or Georgian manor houses outside the town, which offer you quick access to the national park. Whatever you choose, you're always assured of a comfortable stay when you book a night through Expedia.

Though every guestroom is different, you can expect most to come with all the conveniences of a hotel, like a kettle for making hot drinks, a flat-screen TV on the wall and ensuite facilities stocked with toiletries and fluffy towels. Complimentary WiFi is a given, and you might find some rooms have desks, where you can catch up on a few emails or plan your weekend hiking routes. While you're looking around on Expedia, keep an eye out for pet-friendly bed and breakfasts in Pickering so you can bring your furry friends along, or family-sized rooms suitable for the kids. One of the best things about staying in a B&B are those personal touches you just wouldn't find in a hotel – perhaps a vase of freshly cut flowers on the bedside table or some locally made treats waiting for you when you check in. Take some time to chat with the owners, many of whom have lived in the area their whole lives and have recommendations for the best places to eat and things to do. When you wake in the morning, you can start the day right with a full English breakfast, or lighter options, like toast and fruit. If you're looking for a completely different type of break, you could always spend a few days in the urban playground of Manchester, instead.

Steam Trains, Hiking Trails and Historic Castles Near Your B&B, Pickering

It's true that most people come to stay in Pickering bed and breakfasts to use them as a base for exploring the vast nearby national park. It doesn't matter whether you're a hiker, biker or any other type of outdoor adventurer, B&Bs make for the perfect place to stay. However, those who take some time to explore the town itself find a treasure trove of history, and attractions like Pickering Castle, which has adorned a hilltop in the centre for almost 1,000 years. Then there's the Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life, which showcases what life would have been like in Pickering 200 years ago. Be sure to make some time for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway – you can take a trip on an old steam train as it puffs along 24 miles of track that winds through the spectacular landscape.
