The building is quite old and hasn't been renovated since it was built. The word that comes to mind is 'dilapidated'. The carpet is dingy, there are stains on the wall, and the walls are paper thin. Even though I opted for a private room, I could still hear everything in the communal bathroom and hallway. I will say the tatami in the room was on the newer side, and the linens were quite clean. Also free rental bikes are provided which is a huge plus. Overall, my standards were not high given the price but even then I was a little surprised by the state of the property. I've stayed in other similarly priced hotels/hostels that were in much better shape. Also of note: this place does not provide you with a bath towel. You have to pay 50 yen per towel. I don't know why but it irks me when places do this. Just add it to the price of the room and give me a free bath towel lol. Shoji screen doors slid out on 2 sides to reveal broad windows with views of the mountains. If you like traditional interiors and don't need a trendy, polished atmosphere, I highly recommend this place.
