Great little hotel. Excellent friendly staff, comfortable rooms with A/C (a must in Nosara). Few steps from Playa Guiones and walking distance from shops and restaurants (go to Rosie’s Soda for best tico food)

The rooms are practical, nice and clean. Not lux accommodations or prices, a very good value. The employees at the hotel (especially Isabel) and at the Destiny Restaurant on the property are all courteous, friendly and helpful. We took surf lessons on site. Ivan was our instructor. Patient and helpful. We had success! Many thanks for making our time there special. Pura Vida!

Fantastic location right by the beach! Staff was great, especially Isabel who was super helpful. My room was clean and the patio was definitely super enjoyable. I am already booking my next trip :)

Fabulous Boutique Hotel
Could not have enjoyed it more. The food, location, cleanliness, and overall vibe was excellent. The staff from Derek (the owner), to Louise (the manager), to Ivan (the surf instructor), to all the wonderful people in the restaurant, and all the cleaning staff, could not have been more helpful or courteous in making sure we had a great stay. Thank you La Negra and looking forward to coming back.

We stayed at La Negra in 2018 and absolutely loved it! This is the reason why we returned for our honeymoon in February 2023 and stayed 4 nights. We were very disappointed in our stay as things have changed and not for the best, in our opinion. It was great that breakfast was included in the price but when the restaurant was closed, we had to wait an extremely long time to be served (30 minutes for a coffee) and the options were very limited. When the restaurant, which is opened to the public, was opened, the wait time was even longer and the noise was unbearable….not to mention the construction right across the street! We much preferred our first experience when there was a self-serve coffee area and quietness! We were looking forward to waking up in the morning and serving our own coffees and sitting quietly by the pool. We could not relax by the pool on hot afternoons as the restaurant was always busy and the noise of the people and BLENDERS took away any sense of peace and tranquility. They even moved the surfing boards cage right beside the rooms which means you cannot sleep-in as you can hear everything very clearly. There is also an iguana living in the ceiling of room 7 so be warned as you will hear it move around all the time (we were told he’s been living there for a few years). For those returning to La Negra, be prepared for a very big change and constant noise! Had we known about all of these changes and constant noise, we would have not stayed there again.

This hotel was very nice. The pool is great and the attached restaurant was super yummy. Proximity to the beach was also good. I would recommend it to anyone.

Simple, unique style; communal but also good for independent travelers who like privacy; great location - closest place to the beach I have stayed in Nosara (has a direct path through the greenery to a central beach location) and right in the middle to go either direction for local spots -- restaurants, surf shops, etc. Highly recommend.

2* surfing hotel with 4* price.
Okay hotel if you are a surfer or 20 something looking for a laid back no frills place. It's not a $230 hotel but ok at 1/2 that price. The good: as close to the beach as you can get in Nosara. Decent room, all simple and minimalist. Small but clean with a good bed and pillows. Good breakfast and dinner but not included in the room price. Nosara is a funky town with so many surf shops and yoga and fitness places. Very trendy food places--veggie, gluten free, vegan, organic, etc. Upscale boutiques. Expensive real estate. The place has been discovered but maintains a beach bum surfer vibe but with US prices Great surfing beach. The bad: tons of ants and a few spiders in the room. The pool looked sketchy. The only one who went in was the dog and he wouldn't even go all the way in. Horrible wifi. Glad we rented a unit with our car. Pretty small and unkempt grounds. Lots of minor issues that just made the place unpleasant. Left after 2 nights.

Thanks for the review. With respect to those comments about La Negra, I am very sorry you were not completely satisfied. We did have a pool filter issue that put the pool out out of use for a day or two during your stay. That's been fixed. Yes, Bowie the german shepard refuses to go in the pool when it's dirty, so good thing you heeded his warning. At times ants and spiders will show up in the room (there are plenty of them around), and we hope guests will let us know when they do so we can remedy the situation if we have missed them. Wifi is also in the process of a major overhaul. We strive to give our guests an authentic Nosara experience. In Nosara, things don't always work--in fact they break all the time--and it can be difficult to get new stuff. All that to say, we greatly appreciate your patronage.

I would stay at La Negra again!
We had a wonderful stay at La Negra Surf & Soda and we would stay there again. It is beach close (100 yards) accessed by a path straight to the sand. The inner court yard of the hotel is a nice gathering place, laying by the pool, reading a book, or socializing with the hotel guests. Surf boards can be rented on site. Our room was cleaned each day, and the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and accommodating. In addition to the great food that is cooked by the hotel chef, there are many great restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.

Nice clean spot, short walk to the beach.
Excellent boutique hotel w restaurant close to the beach in guinones. Check in was easy, rooms are simple but very clean. Staff recommended a guide service to see turtles at Ostional which worked out perfectly as the trip to the area was specifically to do so. Food at the soda is very good and staff gave excellent recommendations for other restaurants in the area. Definitely would stay here again.

I've stayed at a lot of hotels in Nosara and La Negra is my new favorite. Great location, comfortable cool rooms, great people and amazing food. I really can't say enough good things about this place. I'll definitely be back soon.

Loved staying here for three nights with my husband. The location is great - a very short walk to the beach. The place is super laid back with areas to lounge outside by the pool, bar, patio, etc. Also the food and cocktails are incredible! They made the best veggie burger and breakfast burrito I've ever had.

La pure vida- It's all right here.
La Negra is a beautiful, relaxed small hotel that feels more like an expansive B&B- chill vibe, friendly bar, patio, pool, surfboard rental and lessons, yoga classes, bicycles, and an open air kitchen that can't be beat- breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The owners and staff treat you like family- you could hang here your whole trip- it's all here.

Checked in late. Restaurant was open and we had some food and beers. Before putting the kids to sleep. Laid back vibe. Matty was super cool and made our little guy a smoothie not on the menu. Recommend the food Room was cool and different style. Would come back.

Laid back surf hotel with cool staff
Check in was...weird. Had to wait for 20 mins after being told we'd be helped in 5 minutes, but we did show up at 11 AM before check-in officially began. No instructions or tips on anything at the hotel were given to us (e.g. policies, amenities, restaurant, nearby stuff), plus they didn't even take a credit card. After that though, everything was fine. Room #2 was somewhat spartan: bed, shelves, a rack on which to hang/dry clothes, and a bench for putting bags on, but no chairs or closet. Everything was super clean: linens were changed and floors were mopped every day. No black-out curtains on the windows (sheer curtains only) so bring a sleeping mask if you're prone to waking up in bright daylight at 6:30 AM. AC kept room cool and it was quiet. Private courtyard had direct sun at certain times of day but also had nice shade where you could relax in the 2 chairs. Didn't go in the pool but it was right outside the room. The groundskeepers were constantly cleaning the falling leaves out of it. Food at the restaurant was very good. Ate dinner a few times, and had breakfast most days I stayed there. Staff were all pretty cool. Hung out with them at the hotel bar on many nights.

Best hotel ever!
By far the best hotel we have ever stayed in! The architecture and design was super nice, excellent food, friendly and service minded staff, yoga classes in the premises and located only 2 minutes from the beach with great surf. We loved every minute!

Would advise against staying in this “hotel”
Pro`s: - The staff was helpful. Contra`s: - Food was terrible. - No AC the last night - Problems with the majority of the toilets (we had to use a bucket on three different rooms to flush down the toilet) - The staff debited 1 night (169 dollars) too much on my mastercard. - Noise from road / AC-generators. - Not a great value for money. Would advise against staying in this “hotel”. In relation to what comes within this service at this price, I would say that the performance is on the verge of fraud. Property can not be classified as a hotel. I've stayed at Nosara / Playa Guiones 5 times before and know the area very well. This time we chose to book ahead / stay just pay a little more to live properly. This proved subsequently not to vote. We were unfortunately also have to extend your stay a couple of more nights to USD 169 per night (due blasted capasity nearby.) Will in no way recommend this hotel. Will try to get refunded part of our stay. This is completely unacceptable.
