"Staying at this hotel was an incredible and unique experience! The way the old prison has been transformed into a modern hotel is absolutely brilliant. The historic atmosphere is preserved perfectly, and the clean rooms are very comfortable. The staff is clearly understaffed and overwhelmed with duties, but they work incredibly hard and do their absolute best to keep the atmosphere and everything else perfect. Both the breakfast and parking options were excellent. Highly recommended!"

Grand Hotel Alkmaar

10/10 Excellent

"I always enjoy staying at Grand Hotel Alkmaar. The hotel is wonderful, and the staff are so helpful and welcoming. I look forward to coming back!"

Van der Valk Hotel Hoorn

10/10 Excellent

"Grote zuivere kamer. Heel eerlijk, zo schoon heb ik het nog niet meegemaakt. Vaak zit er nog wel een randje kalk aan de douchekoppen. Alles mooi schoon. Personeel lief (mag ik dat zeggen?) en behulpzaam. Als ik 1 nadeel mag zeggen: het parkeren. Door dat casino stond het helemaal vol. Maar goed. In het hotel was alles top!"

Fletcher Hotel Marijke

8/10 Good

"This is a great location for Bergen and the low-priced self parking is a huge benefit in an area with little parking options. The staff is also especially friendly. The room is clean and adequate but can be noisy and stuffy on warmer days. A small fan is provided but you likely need to have the window open which can add to the noise and temperature regulation issue through the night. There were some minor maintenance issues in the bathroom (slow drain in shower, toilet lever needed some adjustments intermittently or it would stop working, and the hand soap dispenser was not functioning.). A mini fridge would be a nice addition to the room (it looks like it probably had one in the past). The internet was quite good and reliable and the work desk very appreciated. It could use some updates to the outlets at either the bed or desk to accommodate USB demands. The bed, pillows, sheets, and towels were extremely clean but also very minimal in size and quality. All serviceable but not quite comfortable or exceptional in anyway. The mattress was very clean but is also a foam style mattress, which may give some trouble as it runs a little warm and is not as supportive as traditional ones. The breakfast is basic but reliable and plentiful each day should you choose to use it. The property is walking distance from almost everything in central Bergen, but because of the factors above is likely best for a shorter stay vs anything beyond 3 nights."

Heavens Hotel

8/10 Good

"A lovely hotel. The room was excellent and the on-site restaurant (not owned by the hotel) was equally excellent. I would have given it 5 stars but for the fact it was difficult to find anywhere to hand up our clothes after a very wet journey, there wasn't a grab handle in the shower (which I need) and as the hotel is encased in a large church and there was no external branding, we couldn't find it though it was right under our noses!"

Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant De Oude Gevangenis - Alkmaar

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Nibbixwoud?

The best area to stay in Nibbixwoud is generally within the village itself or the immediate surrounding countryside for those seeking a tranquil Dutch experience.

Nibbixwoud is a small, traditional Dutch village characterized by its green fields, waterways, and scattering of farmhouses and residential homes. The main street, Dorpsstraat, runs through the heart of the village, where you'll find the local church and a few essential amenities. It's a peaceful setting, ideal for experiencing rural North Holland.

For couples looking for a relaxing escape, staying in Nibbixwoud offers a chance to unwind. You can enjoy long walks or bike rides through the picturesque polder landscape, explore the nearby historic towns of Hoorn and Enkhuizen, or simply enjoy the quietness of the countryside.

When is the best time to go to Nibbixwoud?

The best time to visit Nibbixwoud is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is at its finest for exploring the region.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, with longer daylight hours. This is ideal for enjoying the Dutch countryside, cycling through the tulip fields (especially in May), or taking a boat trip on the nearby Ijsselmeer. Most outdoor attractions and events are also in full swing during this period.

For couples looking for a romantic getaway, early June offers a wonderful balance of good weather and fewer crowds than the peak of summer. You can enjoy strolls through the historic towns nearby, visit local markets, or simply relax at a countryside hotel without the bustling atmosphere of July and August.

Families travelling with children will find July and August particularly convenient, as it aligns with school holidays. While it's the busiest time, the warm weather is superb for visiting attractions like the nearby cheese markets in Edam or Alkmaar, or spending a day at the beach along the coast.
