This is a very nicely equipped apartment in a historic, double shotgun home that has been very nicely refurbished. 600 square feet is more than adequate space, owners provide coffee and coffee supplies (big deal to me to not have to go find that the first minute!) as well as plenty of toilet paper (some vrbo's give you just enough to get started and that's a hassle). Plenty of storage, and good instructions on how to use the fans and lights, with remotes. This is a GREAT neighborhood. There is a 150 year old church just down the street with a charming bell that rings on the hour; Crescent Park is five minutes away and it's a lovely park where you can walk or ride bikes into the city; uber is available for easy transportation and costs about $7-10 depending where you're going. There is a lot of rehabilitation going on in this neighborhood and streets toward St. Claude St. feel a little sketchy at first, but we felt safe walking that direction (although not at night). If you head toward the river, that part of the neighborhood is moving along in it's gentrification process and there are lovely homes to see as well as incredible restaurants. We ate at several highly reviewed restaurants in other neighborhoods and the best food was in the Bywater nearby this rental. Try Mariza, Elizabeth's and Oaxlis to start.
If you want to enjoy a New Orleans neighborhood, with real people, this is a great option. Things to keep in mind if booking this property: You enter your apartment on the side of the house at the back (this was unclear to me so I add it here). Right where you get the key is the door you enter--not the front door; Oven is gas; furniture is modern--to me this meant a somewhat hard mattress and the futon to sit on was fairly small. I'd recommend a wing chair for putting on shoes and a mattress topper; the garden is clean but could use some plants; laundry room very nice; TV is cable/Netflix only. Don't expect the big three channels (ABC, NBC or CBS); wifi excellent; sheets were excellent quality but we could have used more hand towels and bath mats.
Be brave and leave the French Quarter behind!
