One of the few high-end hotels there, competing against Nara Hotel. But not the JW Marriott Nara! From the minute we checked in the service and hospitality was tremendous. Even the smell of the hotel was unique and comforting. One of my travel partners bought some of their air “therapy” to take home. Our room was luxurious without being over the top. Amenities like sauna, jacuzzi and pool felt like we were in a high end resort somewhere. The breakfast was fresh with a lot of variety. And lets say the foam “baby deer” on our coffee had my wife wanting to take the barista home. The bar was well stocked and wine choice excellent. A little pricey, but expected. I would highly recommend you stay here when in Nara. The room was spacious enough for property in Japan and spa was nice. The front restaurant was filled in the morning for breakfast, and we ate breakfast in the bar area next to the restaurant. Dinner options were poorly executed and lacked freshness or flavor, which was surprising given the quality of food available everywhere else in Japan. The only bright spot was breakfast, which was consistently good and well organized. Service was another weak point. The spa attendants, in particular, were curt and noticeably indifferent. Instead of the warm hospitality we’ve experienced at other Marriott locations, the interactions felt transactional and dismissive. Overall, this hotel needs significant attention, both in service training and property maintenance.
