Close to Blue Ridge! Sweetwater Lodge, this amazing, custom-built, lake-front home, is located in Bear Paw, a gated community on Lake Hiwassee in western North Carolina. The lake is located just west of Murphy, and less than 30 minutes from either Georgia or Tennessee. It offers unparalleled privacy where family and friends can relax and enjoy swimming, boating, and other watersports on this hidden jewel of the Blue Ridge mountains. Sweetwater Lodge is the ideal place to disconnect from it all, but features Starlink Internet service and a Verizon cell booster if you need to stay connected. Lovingly built with thoughtful attention to every detail, the home sleeps 15 and offers 5 bedrooms with 4.5 baths. The master suite is conveniently located on the main level and features a comfy king-sized bed and private bath with a walk-in shower. The main level also includes an expansive well-appointed gourmet kitchen that opens to a great room, designed for comfortable relaxation. It also features a soaring rock fireplace and breathtaking views of the lake and mountains. Upstairs on the third level there are are two bedrooms, each with a full bathroom and private balcony. There is also a cozy loft area with a pull-out couch and comfy armchairs for reading, relaxing, and enjoying the view. On the terrace level, you'll find 2 additional bedrooms one featuring a queen-size bed and the other a kids' room with 2 bunk beds (4 total), plus one full bathroom. This lower level also boasts a game/movie room with a ping pong table, toys, games, puzzles, and movies for those times when the kids (or maybe even the adults) need some quiet time. There is also a second refrigerator/freezer with ice-maker located on this level. Sweetwater Lodge has covered porches on three sides of the house but the expansive upstairs back porch off the great room and overlooking the lake and mountains is always the favorite gathering place for family and friends. It has ample comfortable seating featuring a large swinging bed that is the ultimate spot for an afternoon nap. There is a fireplace on this porch which makes enjoying coffee outside on brisk mornings or roasting marshmallows anytime a real treat. The home also features a top-of-the-line, two-story doc, perfect for sunbathing, lounging, watching the family enjoy swimming in the lake, or just relaxing and soaking up the breathtaking views. On the dock you'll find two kayaks, and a spacious slip where you can bring your own boat (owned or rented) and tie up directly at the dock. The home is located just a three-minute ride from Mountainview Marina—the most spectacular marina in the region—which offers pontoon boat rentals. The Bear Paw community features a central clubhouse with an Olympic-sized size swimming pool, tennis court, indoor pickleball/basketball court, and playground. Nearby Attractions There are countless opportunities for fun and adventure away from the lake. The downtown shops and restaurants of Murphy, Hayesville, Blue Ridge, and Hiawassee are all less than an hour away, as is the world-class white-water rafting on the Nantahala and Ocoee Rivers. Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino is a fairly new addition to the area and is a short 40-minute drive away. The Casino offers 70 traditional table games, 1,000 slots, five food outlets, and cocktails, plus a new bowling alley, an arcade, and a full-service restaurant. Plenty of room, well appointed and comfortable. The outside decks are great, we spent most of our time there and on the lake. The views are fabulous. The dock is on a quiet part of the lake and while it was not easy to get down to the lake, it was not as steep and difficult as places we have stayed in past years. Ashley was super helpful from assisting with the reservation in the beginning, through payment and then upon checkout and assisting in finding lost articles we left behind. The house and lake are beautiful. We had more than enough space. The only complaints, and when I say complaints, they are very minor. The road in the neighborhood is very narrow and the driveway of the house is super steep. This was mentioned but the driveway was steeper than anticipated. The dock furniture is showing wear and tear and there could be more space for trash removal. Main level master with walk-in shower was perfect accessibility for my mom. The teenagers never complained about the internet speed once. We cooked at home every night, even getting the teenagers to learn a new recipe. Watched movies on our own Netflix login on the smart TV and played many of the games that came stocked in the basement. My mom loved the selection of books around the cabin, and plenty of reading nooks. Several family friends travel every year for New Years. I found this home for our group. It was amazing. The home is beautiful. The kitchen was well stocked. The space was perfect for many people! We had 5 couples stay in this wonderful house. We woke every morning with a beautiful fog over the lake and then we had a beautiful sunset at night. The kitchen was well equipped. Unfortunately, Covid had other plans and we had to postpone for an entire year. The property manager and owners were kind enough to extend our reservation without penalty. After 2 years of eagerly waiting, we were rewarded with the most amazing vacation ever! The view of the mountains across the lake were pictureque and a perfect way to start the morning. The house was spacious and well furnished. We had 8 adults in our group and were very comfortable and even had one spare bedroom (with 2 bunk beds if we had choosen to bring any children). Lake Hiwassee is AMAZING! The 81 degree water was perfect for swiming, fishing and boating (we brought our own boat that we put on the dock, or you can rent one from the near by marina). We started the search for our ‘annual lake house’ retreat in 2016\. This was by far the best house we’ve visited yet! The layout was perfect for our 6 adults/ 6 kids and was very well stocked with everything you may need for your stay. Ashley, the property manager, was wonderful throughout our booking, postponement from covid and finally our stay. The home is absolutely gorgeous and the view is breathtaking. I can’t emphasize enough what an enjoyable time everyone had and how great the location on the lake. The only reason we gave location 4 stars is because of the distance to the nearest store (35 minutes). This is a very quiet community, so you don’t get the feel of a ‘neighborhood’. It still fet remote and an escape from the craze of city life. We will definitely consider coming back!!!!!! ##### Dawn M. We have four children ages 1 to 6\. We found the house to be perfect for us! Overall great condition. Very clean. The kitchen was very well stocked and we spent most of our time cooking throughout the weekend. Our kids enjoyed the playground equipment at the front of the community. I only wish it would have snowed while we were there so we could have tried out the sledding hill. What spectacular views off the main and lower level balconies. Marina located close and in the community for rentals. We were very prepared for food prior to arriving since we were traveling by motorcycles and one car which made it fun to prepare meals together in the evenings. Amazing roads to travel on our motorcycles. Would highly recommend arrival in the subdivision during the day. We arrived late in the evening and we had no idea that the ride would take 5 minutes from the entrance to the home and not knowing the roads we were not prepared for the tight curves and steep incline going up the driveway. We obviously got used to the roads and driveway once we navigated using them a few times however I would recommend a 4 by 4 truck with power. The Property Mgr Ashley was prompt with responding and met the homeowner who was very nice talk with. Thanks for allowing us to have great memories and lots of laughs with a great group of friends. ##### Rita B. ---
