Gern is a district of Munich known for its villa settlement from 1892. Together with Neuhausen and Nymphenburg, it forms City District 9 of the Bavarian capital.

A city trip to Gern will lead you to this elegant residential area of Munich and invites you to enjoy a pleasant time in the Bavarian metropolis. There is an underground station in Gern, enabling you to quickly connect to the rest of the city while on a short trip to Munich. Gern is therefore the ideal place to have a quiet stay and yet be centrally located.

A visit to Gern will take you back to the Munich of the past as you are surrounded by old building traditions. Many of the houses in this district are listed. Prime examples are the villas around Böcklinstraße which form part of the oldest terrace house complexes in Munich and invite you for a tour. The houses consist of several stories, built in blocks of various buildings with different ground plans. However, the history of Gern extends much further into the past. The first mention in records lists the date of creation of the village as 1025.

Take a mini break in Gern to visit the historical sites. Castle Nymphenburg is certainly worth a visit. It is easily accessible by a stroll along the castle canal. The castle itself is surrounded by a park which has been expanded multiple times. The Nymphenburg estate is among the most beautiful castles in the world. It was erected by Henriette Adelaide of Savoyen in 1664 as a summer palace and continuously expanded through the next 300 years.

During your city trip, the Museum Mensch und Natur (Man and Nature) also awaits. Many exhibits from natural history and an extensive exhibit of the geological development of the earth will impress visitors. Replicas, models and audiovisual programs make learning a modern experience here.

Be sure to also visit the Dante Pool while on your city trip to Gern. In the summer, take a refreshing dip into several swimming pools while a warm bath heated up to 30 degrees awaits in winter. The pool also offers a gym, a sauna area and various massage offerings inviting you to enjoy some relaxation during your mini break. The Dante Pool was built in 1913 and was home to the water polo competition during the Olympic Summer Games of 1974.
