However, we enjoyed our stay and the staff were all very helpful. Dinner was good, despite having to wait quite a long time for it. "Appleby Castle is a special destination, steeped in history that you can experience first hand. Staff care deeply about the castle and we thoroughly enjoyed the piano playing during the meal and the history talk after. Having read some of the other reviews, we can’t say we experienced any of the negatives and thought Peter, Sally (and chef!) did a great job it being just them running the castle."

"The staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. The food was very good. The hotel is very comfortable, well furnished and very quiet being a little remote. No outside noise and very little noise inside the hotel even with coach parties staying over. Looking forward to my next visit."
