Although it may lack the glamour and history of the more central areas, the Central Station is a Milanese icon. The station itself is a sight to behold: a colossus of steel, glass, and marble built in the 1930s to inspire awe as travellers arrived in Italy. The area is a bustling hive of activity, full of small shops and international cuisines of every kind, offering a more diverse Milanese experience than you might get if you stayed elsewhere.
One thing to know: this area is quite central, and given Milan’s large population, that means there’s always a fair amount of foot traffic at all hours of the day. Don’t miss a visit to the restaurants and street food stalls at the Mercato Centrale, a new dining concept that has already been a success in Turin and Florence.
Shops, banks, supermarkets, and restaurants of all kinds can be found on the streets adjacent to Via Vitruvio, the main thoroughfare leading to the station.
Just a short walk away is the yellow metro station (Line 3), which takes you to the Duomo in 4 stops, passing through the fashion district, Via Montenapoleone. Also at Centrale, you can take the green metro line (Line 2) to Cadorna, Stazione Garibaldi, Loreto, and Assago Forum. Numerous trams run through the city centre from Piazza della Repubblica.
Central Station, a neighbourhood in Milan, is home to this apartment. Teatro alla Scala and Castello Sforzesco are cultural highlights, and travellers looking to shop may want to visit Corso Buenos Aires and Via Montenapoleone Fashion District.
