Despite its small size, the island of Menorca is diverse. When you visit on holiday it won’t take you long to understand why Menorca has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. In addition to a lush, green interior, there are over 124 miles (200km) of coastline to discover, with golden-sand coves in the south and rugged, rocky shores in the north.
It’s the beaches that have turned this small island in the Balearic archipelago into such a popular tourist destination, attracting both local Spanish visitors and overseas tourists, especially Brits, Germans and Italians. The hotels in Menorca cater to this varied market, and you can choose from budget options as well as a selection of luxury and four-star hotels.
The range of accommodation on offer also includes numerous all-inclusive hotels in Menorca, with some of the most popular resorts on the island, such as the four-star Globales Mediterrani Hotel located in Cala Blanca. The hotel is close to the beach and also offers a swimming pool, entertainment, Wifi on the main floor, a buffet restaurant and a pool bar.
Along the coast of Menorca there are plenty of places that are perfect for a few days of seaside rest and recuperation. You might want to start your search for a hotel in Menorca in some of the most popular areas of the island. Historic Ciutadella de Menorca, the former capital, is one of the most-visited towns, located at the western end of the island. Alternatively, you could opt for Mahón, the main centre of Menorca, or look for hotels in Fornells, a quiet fishing village located on the northern coast in a protected area of natural beauty.
Wherever you end up, if you like to keep active you'll find lots of things to do. Menorca has excellent conditions and facilities for water sports, right up and down its coast. Take your pick from sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, diving or snorkelling, or simply enjoy an exhilarating swim.
Menorca is a fantastic destination if you’re travelling as a family, with close to 200 of its hotels offering facilities for babies and children. In addition to the basics, such as changing spaces and the option to add extra beds and cots to your room, some of these hotels really go all out to cater to the needs of families. One such hotel is the four-star Carema Club Resort in Mercadal, which has a dedicated kids’ pool complete with fun water slides.
Some hotels in Menorca also offer services such as kids’ clubs, so you can enjoy some time off from looking after the younger members of your family. See our full range of family-friendly hotels in Menorca.
Of course, there’s more to Menorca than great beaches and the sea. Look for hotels in Mahón and you’ll be well placed to discover important archaeological sites, such as Trepucó or Talatí de Dalt. The town of Mahón also sits a short drive from Albufera Natural Park d'Es Grau, which comprises wetlands and traditional farms.
The island’s rich natural heritage is one of its biggest draws. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. Head to an elevated area such as Ciutadella de Menorca for spectacular views. While there, you can take the time to explore the medieval old town with its wonderful centuries-old buildings, including the Convent of Santa Clara, the impressive historic church and the Socors Cathedral.
Spanish law strictly prohibits smoking in all enclosed spaces. This means hotels in Menorca can’t allow you to smoke in your room or elsewhere indoors, including bars and clubs. However, smoking on balconies, terraces and in most outdoor spaces is still permitted, and your hotel is likely to have a designated area for smokers.
If you have time on your trip, why not indulge in a little island-hopping? Stay at one of our hotels in Palma and you’ll be well placed for discovering the beaches and towns of Majorca.
