Pocket Guides: Independent Hotels in Maui

Independent Hotels on Maui Island

Maui Island’s independent hotels reach from luxury all-inclusive resorts and beach hotels to three-star boutique accommodation and family-friendly condos. The majority of Maui’s independent hotels are family run and give you a high level of service, helping you to experience the best of island life.

Staying in Maui’s Independent Hotel

The majority of Maui independent hotels are in Lahaina, Napili-Honokowai and Kapalua. And each of the independent hotels is unique, offering everything from spa services to barbecue grills and onsite restaurants. Make the most of the Hawaiian sun by taking a dip in outdoor pools and enjoying a snack in the picnic areas.

Settle in for an evening on your spacious patio or join other guests at an in-house luau. Maybe you’d rather enjoy a quiet, air-conditioned evening in front of the TV or cook up a storm in your fully equipped kitchen if you’re in an independent condo.

Where to Stay on Maui Island

West Maui has some of the liveliest resort areas on Maui Island. Pick an independent hotel in Kaanapali to be close to the excellent surf on Kaanapali Beach and the Whalers Village’s traditional Hawaiian shows. The former whaling port of Lahaina is now home to many trendy bars and restaurants where you can catch some live music and tuck into luau dishes or locally-caught seafood.

During the day, join one of the regular whale watching or diving excursions that leave Lahaina Harbor.

South Maui has from some of Maui Island’s best weather, and the beaches in Wailea are often busy with bathers, swimmers and snorkellers. Families can head up to Maalaea to discover Maui’s native marine life at the Maui Ocean Center. To see some of the island’s native wildlife in its natural habitat, drive down to Maluaka Beach to spot sea turtles.

Golf on Maui Island

Known for its many award-winning golf courses set in stunning locations, Maui Island has plenty of courses to challenge golfers. Tee off at Kapula’s Plantation Course which hosts the annual PGA Tour’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions and has seen many golfing greats set foot on its green.
