Matsumoto Vacation Packages

Travellers to this part of Nagano will be rubbing shoulders with approximately 210,000 residents.

It lies 13 miles west of Chiisakata-gun and about 110 miles west of Tokyo, the national capital.

Rediscover the joys of childhood at the Daio Wasabi Farm and the Tirol no Mori. For more family fun, continue on to Yatsugatake Farm Stand and Tateshina Leisure Land.

An afternoon investigating the watery worlds at Tateshina Aquarium is the perfect way to get acquainted with the incredible creatures of the deep.

To learn more about the noble art of brewing, take the opportunity to visit the Kametaya Sake Brewery. The friendly brewmaster will teach you all about the different brewing methods and techniques, and what it is that makes these beers so delicious.

Enjoy a superb day out with your friends at the Goichi Winery, Azumino Winery or the Izutsu Winery. Meet the dedicated vintners, sample what's on offer and maybe buy a bottle for the road.

When the weather is fine, grab something for lunch and find a quiet corner at one of the pleasant green spaces, such as Suwashi Kohan Park or the Barakura English Garden. You'll also find plenty of room to lie down in the grass at Azusagawa Furusato Park and Agatanomori Park.

If you are looking for background information about the area, ask the staff some questions at Kamikochi Visitor Centre.

Listen to the roar of bubbling water and take in the untouched scenery at Otome Waterfall and Yoshigoro Falls.

Expanses of fresh water almost always entice a wide array of critters. Take a pair of binoculars to Ushidome Pond or Taisho Pond and see what you can spy. No luck there? Head on over to Myojin Pond and Mishaka Pond and have another shot.

Need to get away from the noise of the city? Head out on an adventure to Mount Jonen and Ichinose Meadow. Kirigamine Highland and Yashimagahara Marsh are also popular with nature enthusiasts.

Set aside a day or two to explore some of the many cultural institutions in the area. Savour the quiet and relaxing atmosphere as you check out the collections at the Matsumoto Timepiece Museum and the Kaichi School Museum. Another two to look at are Suwa Glass Village and Houro Museum.

You may think of natural museums as the domain of children, but the fascinating collections of the Niekawa Sekisyo Kiso Kokokan and the Hiraide Museum show that there's a good deal to keep the grown-ups interested as well. The Idojiri Archaeological Museum and the Togariishi Museum of Jomon Archaeology are also well worth a visit.

Add to your knowledge of art, and maybe even find a piece to take back home at one of the area's numerous gallery and exhibition spaces. Revel in the cool atmosphere at the Japan Ukiyo-e Museum and the Matsumoto City Museum. If you can fit them in, the Taizi Harada Art Museum and the Kitazawa Museum of Art are also well worth a look.

The Old High School Memorial Museum and the Narakawa Museum of History and Folklore are both excellent places to learn about the history of the world.

Honjin Iwanami House and the Yatsugatake Natural and Culture Park are certainly worth paying a visit to, even if you aren't a history buff. More stories from a bygone era are waiting for you at Oshoya Yamaguchike and Uehara Castle.

Many visitors enjoy taking a look at the area's historic castles. Watch out for the wandering spirits of long-ago residents as you hear the heroic stories of Matsumoto Castle and Takashima Castle.

The spiritual side of the region can be experienced at Suwa Shrine and the Onsenji Temple. If you want to check out a couple more religious sites, check for tours at the Raiko-ji Temple and the Jiun-ji Temple.

Before you pack up your suitcase and make your way home, make sure you stop at some of Matsumoto's other attractions. The Nagano Prefecture Forestry Research Centre and the Kurassic are two worthwhile options. Also, consider visiting the Azumino Arthills Museum and the Kita Yatsugatake Ropeway if you have the time.
