Charming unit inside Lucca’s historic wall! An immersive taste of city life. Easy check-in with the key box. The helpful intro email was 20 pages of useful information. Elisa was wonderful, helpful, very responsive and fun - even helping me practice my Italian. Air conditioning worked well, and what a treat to have a washer plus the terrace for drying. Short walk to Conad City and several smaller markets. Rent a bike with a basket for shopping at Essalunga just outside the wall to the north. Reminder: don’t buy more than you can carry! The kitchen is small but functional, though I would add more vessels for oven use, bowls for fruit/salad/serving, and a set of wooden spoons/spatula. Maybe most guests aren’t there long enough to cook, but I stayed 11 days and dined in several nights. Some of the exterior shutters only swing open, not up, but that’s part of the old world charm. I love the old windows with both internal and external shutters. A portable fan would be helpful to move air while windows are closed. The house is on a rather busy street and the VRBO map is off by a few blocks. Don’t miss cacio pepe at Da Vasco’s near Porto Santa Maria, and say hello to the lovely Julietta at Bar Martini
