Airports are a regrettable necessity and you want to spend as little time in them as possible. And airport hotels are usually similarly undesirable - soulless places that are usually just outside the airport perimeter and yet seem to require a lengthy taxi ride to get you to check-in.
Well the Gatwick Sofitel isn’t like that at all. It’s absolutely bang slap in the middle of the airport’s North Terminal, and you can find yourself at baggage drop within a couple of minutes of leaving reception. Even the South Terminal is an easy ten minute walk away via the shuttle train.
On my one and only overnight stay check-in was exceptionally quick and friendly, the room was spotless and reasonably equipped, and everything worked. This was one of the easiest starts I’ve ever had to an aircraft check-in. The only problem with the room was that there was just one socket, and that was well away from the bed. These days surely we all want to keep our phones active and charged while the hours to the flight begin to countdown.
