Powys featuring cuddly or friendly animals, farmland and tranquil scenes

Affectionately nicknamed “Dod” by the locals, the 19th Century spa town of Llandrindod Wells is the fifth largest in Powys, but when it comes to personality, it’s definitely number one. Set in the remote Powys countryside, Llandrindod Wellsis the ideal private getaway for families, nature lovers or those who simply want a romantic retreat with a loved one.

Llandrindod Lake ParkNestled in wooded hills to the south of the town, LlandrindodLake Park is a jewel in the country landscape. The manmade lake here was originally created as a boating attraction during Llandrindod Wells’ hey-day as a Victorian spa town. Today, it’s a popular spot for anglers and model boaters. It also has a fabulous little café where you can grab a bite while looking over the copper serpent sculpture that emerges from the lake. A hit with the kids, the lake is also home to a variety swans and ducks – so don’t forget the breadcrumbs!

Golf in Llandrindod WellsLlandrindod Wells Golf Club is a wonderful and challenging course, made all the more spectacular for its remote location and beautiful green surrounds. Nevertheless, it’s still challenging if you’re an expert, due to its hilly approaches and high winds in autumn and winter.
