The town stands in a valley and still today has preserved characteristic traditional architecture. Holiday packages to Livigno are available year round, because every season offers fun and many enjoyable things to do. For centuries Livigno was isolated from the outside world, but in the early 1900s the most important roads were rebuilt and new ones opened to Bormio, Poschiavo and St. Moritz, through the Forcola Pass. Today Livigno is one of the most important Italian ski destinations, thanks to the high altitude of the plateau, reaching 1,800 metres above sea level. Holiday and sport are enriched by the delicious local gastronomy and the relaxing pleasant atmosphere. There are many small churches in Livigno which have preserved their characteristic architecture and house the mountain community's major art work. The main church, Santa Maria Nascente, for example, was reconstructed in 1892 and houses a precious antependium from the 1700s. The churches of Sant'Antonio and San Rocco date back to the 16th century and house notable tapestries and wood work. After admiring the town's religious structures, you'll be spoilt with choices when it comes to having fun in the snow. Livigno offers visitors 115 km of ski slopes, as part of the Alta Valtellina ski circuit. The slopes are appropriate for every ability level and are well connected, thanks to the modern ski lifts. The ski complex of Mottolino, in particular, has excellent lodges and snowboarding slopes for every skill level with the best Snowpark in Europe, a must during your holiday in Livigno. The Christmas Markets are amongst the most anticipated events in Livigno, when the town's streets are lined with numerous wooden stalls selling all kinds of local gifts and produce. The atmosphere is unforgettable, with the snowy Alps, the Christmas lights in the centre and the aroma of Vin Brulè.
