"Nice pool , good breakfast, quiet location. Helpful managers, excellent restaurant on site Our room #128: shower head clogged-had to use hand held. Slow drain and small shower cubicle wirh no curtain: flooding on floor everytime we showered . Dont stay in room 128. Our AC kept our room cool, however everyday we would leave and the housekeeper would open the patio doors and leave them unlocked. We reported this to management. Air conditioner from above floor dripped onto our patio right next to...

"The hotel location is fantastic, very peaceful, with well kept and beautiful grounds. Food is excellent, staff and service equally so. Whilst the rooms are basic ours was very clean and the swim up pool, whilst shared with two other rooms, felt private. We had a wonderful ten days all inclusive, which was excellent value. We'd 100% return! Not a place to go if you're bothered about watching television 🙂"

Hotel Kissandros

8/10 Good

"The lady in charge couldn’t do enough for us and she put on a decent enough breakfast each morning. Her qualities stemmed from her good nature and willingness to assist us in every way. Her lack of English language skills meant she lacked the werewithall to help on other issues such as a lack of certain bathroom equipment such as a plug for the sink. Such small inconveniences didn’t bother us but it may do others. The lady’s son attended regularly and he could speak English more than adequately. The room was always clean and everyone down at breakfast seemed to be perfectly happy with the place."

Private paradise with heated pool Peace, comfort. Goddess and large garden

10/10 Excellent

"If you are wanting a 5 star hotel this is not the place for you however if you are wanting a very Cretian villa with a beautiful pool and garden and a host who goes the extra mile then this is the place. Vagelis (the owner) simply added to the holiday with his fresh fruits, honey and oil from his own olives. He was available for any help needed. Great place to stay and great people. We would gladly visit again."

8/10 Good

"Great sea views and easy 5 minute walk to Agia Galini beach. Room 212 was spacious, bed was comfortable, pool was beautiful and had ample sun-beds and shade, and the AC worked great. Improvements that would enhance the stay include figuring out and fixing the sewage smell in the room and fixing the moldy trim outside shower. Lacked basic amenities like hair conditioner, had a bottle of hand lotion in the shower instead of hair conditioner- which was really weird. When you leave the room, all electricity turns off which means the mini refrigerator and freezer turn off- you come back to melted ice and warm beer. There is no restaurant on site. They do have a snack bar at the pool open until 5 pm. They have buffet breakfast with a lot of hot and cold choices each morning. If you want real orange juice, cappuccino, or espresso there is an additional charge (most hotels include these options via self serve machines). In the evening they offer a buffet dinner. Bar is open til late but does not serve food or snacks. We really missed having a restaurant to order from. Good news is plenty of great beach bars and tavernas were short walk away along the beach."

Astoria

10/10 Excellent

"The room was modern and spacious, balconies with a sea & mountain view. The buffet breakfast was fresh, with hot & cold choices, great coffee! Staff superb. Guests friendly with kind hearts. My wife was surprised when two Dutch couples presented her with a small gift, singing Happy Birthday on her birthday. Parking on site. Close to all amenities. Shout out to Anna & Constantina."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Lístaros?

The best area to stay in Lístaros is within the village itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside for those seeking a more secluded experience.

Lístaros is a small, traditional Cretan village, not bustling with large hotels, but rather offering a collection of villas and guesthouses. The village centre is compact, with a few tavernas and a mini-market. It's known for its relatively untouched character and views of the Messara plain and the Libyan Sea.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find staying in Lístaros ideal. The village offers a chance to experience authentic Cretan life away from the crowds, with opportunities for quiet evenings enjoying local food and stargazing. Many villas feature private pools and terraces, great for a relaxing holiday together.

For solo travellers seeking a tranquil retreat and a base for exploring the south of Crete, Lístaros provides a good option. You can enjoy quiet walks through the olive groves or take short drives to nearby beaches like Matala or Kommos.

When is the best time to go to Lístaros?

The best areas to stay in Lístaros, Crete, are generally along the coastline, with the areas around Marathi Beach and Loutraki Beach offering excellent options for a quality and convenient holiday.

Marathi Beach is a popular choice, known for its sheltered bay and calm, shallow waters, making it ideal for families. The area features a selection of tavernas directly on the beach, serving fresh seafood and traditional Cretan dishes. You'll find a relaxed atmosphere here, with easy access to the water and sun loungers. The small promenade connecting the tavernas offers a pleasant stroll in the evenings.

For couples seeking a more tranquil setting with stunning views, the hillsides above Loutraki Beach provide an excellent retreat. This area offers a sense of privacy and often features villas or boutique hotels with private pools and panoramic sea views. While a car is recommended for exploring further afield, Loutraki Beach itself is a short drive away, offering clear waters for swimming and a couple of beachside eateries.
