Find hotels in Kratzenburg from £50

The best area to stay in Kratzenburg is the Old Town (Altstadt) for its central location and historic charm.

The Old Town is the heart of Kratzenburg, located within the medieval city walls. This pedestrian-friendly district is characterised by narrow, cobblestone lanes, half-timbered houses, and numerous local shops, cafes, and restaurants. The main square, Marktplatz, with the historic Rathaus (City Hall) and the towering St. Martin's Church, is a central landmark. The Moselle River runs just alongside, offering pleasant riverside walks.

Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing. Its quaint streets and historic architecture create a romantic setting, great for leisurely strolls and discovering hidden courtyards. Many hotels here offer views of the Moselle or the charming rooftops, and you're always just a short walk from a cosy wine tavern or a gourmet restaurant.

For those seeking convenience and a more modern hotel experience, the area just outside the Old Town walls, particularly along the Moselpromenade, offers excellent options.

The best time to visit Kratzenburg is during the late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) when the weather is pleasant and the region's natural beauty is at its peak.

During late spring, the vineyards along the Rhine and Moselle rivers are lush and green, and the flowers are in bloom. Temperatures are mild, making it ideal for exploring the castles, taking river cruises, and enjoying outdoor activities like cycling or walking along the riverbanks. This period avoids the peak summer crowds and offers comfortable conditions for sightseeing.

Early autumn is another excellent choice, particularly for those interested in the region's wine culture. This is harvest season, and many local festivals celebrate the new wine, known as "Federweisser." The autumn foliage transforms the landscape into a stunning array of colours, providing a picturesque backdrop for castle visits and scenic drives.
