First as a village, then an industrial centre with its port and railway, and now as a traffic hub with the opening of Copenhagen Airport Kastrup in the 1920s. Kastrup is surrounded by stunning scenery in the huge Naturpark Amager, one of the biggest continuous areas of countryside outside a major city in Europe.
Travel to Kastrup to get close to the Øresund and nature by visiting the tiny island of Saltholm. The whole island is a reservation and only a handful of people live here. On the other hand, there are several hundred cows and sheep grazing there in the summer and a teeming bird reservation. Postbåden, the old post boat, sails from Kastrup to Saltholm twice a week. If you want a city break while in Kastrup, Copenhagen and Malmø are next door. Go to Malmø via the Øresundsbroen, which has become one of Copenhagen's biggest tourist attractions due to the popular TV drama, “The Bridge”.
