Comfort and the best seat in the west to view the Tasman Sea

Comfort and the best seat in the west to view the Tasman Sea

10/10 Excellent
"The home was excellent for what we wanted. Very comfortable, not everything brand new....thankfully! I feel a bit anxious if it like a show home, I like to feel I can relax. Great dinning table for board games, kitchen had everything we needed. Beds very comfortable. The home baked biscuits delicious...maybe too delicious, as we ate quite a lot of them. View to the beach was great, lovely to hear the surf, and only a few metres walk and you are on the sand. Easy walking on the beach, my little dog love running along it. Would definitely be happy to book again."

The main street, Victoria Street, has a number of shops, cafes, and local services. It's a practical base for exploring the Kauri Coast, including Kaihu Forest and the nearby Tane Mahuta, the largest known living kauri tree. For families, Dargaville provides a convenient hub. You'll find a local museum, parks, and easy access to both the forest attractions and the nearby Pouto Peninsula, which offers opportunities for beach activities and exploring historic lighthouses.

The best time to go to Kaihu Forest is during the warmer, drier months from November to April. This period offers the most pleasant weather for exploring the forest's walking tracks and outdoor activities. You'll experience longer daylight hours and generally lower rainfall, making it ideal for enjoying the natural beauty without the disruption of heavy downpours. For those planning to spend significant time hiking and engaging in outdoor adventures, visiting between December and February is particularly good. The temperatures are at their highest, and the forest trails are typically dry and easy to navigate. This is superb for active couples or solo travellers looking to maximise their time outdoors. If you prefer slightly cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of November, March, and April are excellent. The weather is still very agreeable for exploring, and you'll often find the forest a bit quieter.
