Hotel staff exemplary. The restaurant breakfast and dinner buffets were varied, well prepared and presented. Rooms were not large, but certainly adequate and comfortable. The bedding - including pillow choices - was excellent. Espresso machine in lobby and available at all times. Room included a Nespresso-type machine and bottled water in a small fridge. Very pleasant stay… all three times we stayed there in the last month.

The staff goes above and beyond. The hospitality is exceptional. So much so, that we returned a second time to book end our month long trip to Africa. Although it is outside the city, it is worth the Uber drive if only for one night between flights. Everyone will treat you like family and the on site restaurant has a nice mix of SA foods and things for tourists. It is hard to find the right words to recommend this hotel - maybe highly recommended or outstanding! Anyway, you won't be disappointed.

This property has been undergoing renovation for quite some time without end. In our recent stay we were moved 3 times in a week due to construction and lack of hot water. The new room on the 3rd occasion was really nice however no point having a fancy bath if can’t use it. Leaking kettles, loose taps, never seem to know how many persons are on the room to ensure enough towels or drinking water and always have to chase for service rather than receive. Speaking to the lady staying on same floor as we did said she has been complaining for 6 weeks.We were patrons having come back for the 3rd time in this year, however it will now be the last. Lovely front desk staff however the overall management requires significant improvement.

When I checked in the room key machine wasn’t working so they had to open the door for me each time I left. They acted like it would be fixed in two hours but then found out the IT person wouldn’t be in until the morning to fix it. They should have told me that when I checked in! Also my room didn’t have working heat. They said it would be fixed in the morning. Breakfast was great. I asked the staff where to get a massage and they said locals don’t get massages so they didn’t know where to recommend . They told me a neighborhood 30 minutes away that I could look on the map and find a spa. You can hear people in the hallways. It was clean.

I made plans to arrive a day early for my scheduled safari tour which was gathering to begin our journey at this hotel. I reserved an extra night and was very happy with the hotel facilities. I needed to eat dinner late that first night due to flight delays, and the hotel restaurant stayed open until 10. They were very gracious about me showing up nearly at closing time. I was able to order and eat while they cleaned up. I grabbed a glass of wine at the bar which was also due to close at 10- and took it to my room to unpack. The hotel facilitated a tour of Soweto for me the next day. The hotel advertises an airport shuttle, which was slightly difficult to arrange, but I was met at the airport with someone holding a sign with my name. He carried my bag to the car and drove me to the door and helped me in. The hotel is not located in Pretoria proper, but they accommodated guests who wanted to arrange tours. Nice room. Excellent, helpful staff.

First night found lamps and safe not working. Next morning woken up by construction directly above at 07:10, complained and apologized and informed wasn’t supposed to start before 08:00. Next morning same thing at 07:14, so were moved. New room woken up by noises in pipes and found our bathroom, bath and shower full of sewerage coming out. Moved again. Next morning banging again directly above us at 07:08?? We normally like to stay at Anew , however this was a terrible experience and moved 3 times in one week. Really thought management would have offered a reduction in rates or some form of refund but not to be, very disappointing and not the normal standard of South African hotel management.

After many WHATSAPP conversations internationally, hotel manager promised a refund for an error in reservation date for two rooms which were rebooked with ANEW as soon as an error was discovered. If he had answered Expedia’s calls, the problem wouldn’t exist. The manager reneged on his promise when I arrived. I would have pursued it further had he not assured me of the credit to my account. Bate and switch. I could say more.
