This area is the main draw for visitors to Jewell due to its direct access to Oneida Lake, the largest lake entirely within New York State. Sylvan Beach itself is a compact village with a relaxed, holiday park feel, featuring a historic amusement park, a public beach, and several casual eateries and ice cream parlours along Main Street. Accommodation here ranges from holiday rentals to a few motels and inns.

Families often find Sylvan Beach an excellent choice. The amusement park offers rides and entertainment suitable for children, and the public beach provides opportunities for swimming and building sandcastles. Many accommodations offer direct lake access or are a short walk from the waterfront, making it easy to enjoy water activities together.

Couples looking for a peaceful getaway might prefer staying slightly outside the main village area, in one of the holiday rentals or B&Bs that dot the lake's edge. These often provide more privacy and direct access to the lake for fishing, boating, or simply enjoying the views.

The best time to visit Jewell is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and ideal for outdoor activities.
