North Point Travel Guide

Hong Kong Island

A busy urban street with tall buildings, a large billboard, and various vehicles including buses and cars.
A multi-story residential building with numerous balconies, air conditioning units, and laundry hanging out to dry.
A clothing store with various garments on display, including a sign with Chinese characters.
A multi-story building with various shops and businesses on the ground floor.
A variety of raw fish on ice.

From a street market and a former communist hangout to experimental art galleries and innovative kids’ activities, this district blends old and new.

Overlooking scenic Kowloon Bay and dwarfed by Hong Kong’s towering skyscrapers, North Point is a historic neighbourhood that mixes tradition with modernity. From this southern spot on the harbour, admire the area’s stunning skyline and spot the mountains forming a natural backdrop.

For a sense of traditional Hong Kong, head to the Chun Yeung Street Market in the centre of the district. Stroll beside the tramlines and peruse the stalls selling everything from fruit and fashion to seafood and souvenirs. The tram runs daily from early morning until late afternoon.

Explore the adjacent Wah Fung Chinese Goods Centre, an enormous department store whose building was once used as a refuge by dissident communists in the 1960s. Get a flavour for local cuisine, with egg rolls and duck specialties.

Nearby, stop at the Sunbeam Theatre that lights up a corner of King’s Road. Admire the flurry of hanging lanterns in the lobby and watch Cantonese opera.

Walk west for 15 minutes and marvel at the experimental works gracing the walls and floors of the Oi! Street Art Space. For a more family-oriented experience, bring your kids to the Ryze Hong Kong recreation centre, with indoor trampolines, ropes and trapezes.

Make a trip across the water by ferry from the North Point Ferry Pier. As you ride, listen to fellow travellers. Some locals speak both Cantonese and the Hokkien dialect handed down from ancient fishing families.

Find North Point on the southern side of Kowloon Bay in Central Hong Kong. The neighbourhood stands between the regions of Causeway Bay and Taikoo Shing. Take the metro to the stations of Fortress Hill or North Point and get around on foot.

While here, make sure to visit nearby highlights including Choi Sai Woo Park, Ma Shan Village and Quarry Bay Park.
