Victoria Peak Tower featuring modern architecture, skyline and a high-rise building

Visit this region on China’s southeast coast to find an alluring city and its quaint English charm, a picturesque harbor, Buddhist monuments and scenic beaches.

Discover fascinating Hong Kong, the harbor city and financial center on China’s southeast coast. This Chinese Special Administrative Region is known for its British influence, remarkable high-rise development, scenic coastal areas and outstanding shopping. Explore Hong Kong’s landmark Victoria Harbour and bustling cityscape, noting the eclectic mix of colonial British and sleek modern architecture. Traveling beyond the Kowloon peninsula to outlying islands, find picturesque beaches and stunning landscapes on Lantau Island.

Begin your day with a dim sum breakfast at a tea restaurant. Learn about local history at the Hong Kong Museum of History, the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre and the Hong Kong Museum of Art, all in Kowloon. Catch the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour toward Hong Kong Central to enjoy stunning views of the harbor skyline and downtown area.

Enjoy fantastic shopping opportunities in Central, from sprawling department stores to exclusive boutique retailers and narrow lanes. Board the funicular Victoria Peak Tram to explore Hong Kong’s distinguished Victoria Peak district, the highest point on the island. Take in panoramic views of the city and coastline before heading back down to Soho or Lan Kwai Fong for the restaurant and bar strips.

Discover Hong Kong’s traditional heritage in the New Territories district, where you can find walled villages, the Fu Shin Street Traditional Bazaar and numerous tranquil temples. On Lantau, see heritage stilt houses in the waters of Tai O Fishing Village and a wild landscape of densely forested mountains, complete with an enormous hilltop Buddhist monument and, contrastingly, the Hong Kong Disneyland. Try local seafood and explore the island’s shoreline, dotted with fishing boats.

Reach Hong Kong by plane to Hong Kong International Airport, near Lantau Island. Ferries also operate from Macau. Several cruise ships make port in Victoria Harbour. Explore Hong Kong with the city’s excellent public transportation system or catch taxis, trams or buses. Hong Kong has a humid climate, with a hot summer season. Visit Hong Kong in spring to experience the Chinese New Year festivities and see traditional lion dancing and beautiful lanterns. In summer, see local music festivals and dragon boat races in the harbor.
