Leonardo Royal Hotel Oxford

10/10 Excellent

"Great stay in clean property with helpful staff. Location isn't too bad as it's only a 10 minute drive into centre of Oxford. Parking bit of a pain as the car park gets very full. Hotel is huge so be prepared to walk a distance to get to your room, only a problem if you are disabled like me. Disabled bays an issue as only 3 available. wasn't impressed with breakfast, it was OK but nothing special. Good facilities and everything you need in your room. We were by the conferences for our stay and their is a funny musty smell in the rooms but this wasn't too strong."

"No reflection of amenities that were advertised on the advert on hotels . Com very misrepresented x very dated , dirty very tired very disjointed with rooms all over the place . Asked to be moved rooms and accommodated thankfully . Only slightly better. X Breakfast was a joke in a café on the opposite side of the road terrible service poor breakfast small quantity of food, cold lucked everything you could imagine will definitely not stay here again."

"Think we were about 50years too young for this resort. As it was like a pensioners retreat. Breakfast was ok one morning. Better next. Not much breakfast options on menu. Booking your slot for breakfast and dinner in advance not always possible practical when sightseeing. . Breakfast is included. But you cannot go when you want for breakfast. You have pre book you table in advance. If you remember to leave enough time to do the walk. The maze like corridors and lift situation. No mattter were you go that smell. Never does. Once you have smelt it. You cannot un smell it. You only option us to run to nearest window which is closed or door which is button assist. Slow motion to allow mobility scooters to pass. We did have a good game of croquet on lawn. Room was dirty. And window look out onto concrete 70s jungle. The grounds were lovely we did see deer , phesant, squirells etc."

"We stayed for one night in a suite booked through Expedia and unfortunately the experience did not meet expectations, particularly given the price paid. We chose the suite because it was advertised as having a separate sitting area and complimentary WiFi. However, the room did not appear to have a genuinely separate seating area as described, and we were not provided with any WiFi information on arrival. There were several maintenance and cleanliness issues, including a broken and unstable table, an empty shower gel dispenser, an unpleasant odour coming from the bathroom, and a room telephone that did not work. We also attempted to contact room service at around 7pm and received no answer. The sofa bed was particularly disappointing. Our child, who normally sleeps very well, struggled to sleep on it and we did not feel it was suitable for use as a child's bed. The room was extremely hot on arrival, with the windows and curtains left open on one of the hottest days of the year. Despite putting the fans on immediately, it took a long time for the room to become comfortable. The hotel itself felt tired and dated in several areas and would benefit from refurbishment and improved maintenance. We were also disappointed by the breakfast arrangements. Information provided stated that weekday breakfast, including Mondays, was served from 7:00am. However, as it was a Bank Holiday Monday, breakfast did not start until 8:00am. "Very comfortable bed! A fan was provided which was awesome given the heat wave that was happening! There was an iron/ironing board and the room was spacious. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. Had a great supper in the restaurant. Parking on site for a very reasonable price. Great location for exploring plus the area around was very quiet."

Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel

"Paying more than £200 for a midweek one night stay, you have certain expectations. The room was nice, the bathroom modern, the staff at check in very pleasant. We arrived during a heatwave. The room was hot (the thermostat said 26 celsius / 80F). We tried adjusting the air conditioning to cool the room, but it didn't do anything. There was a powerful fan that at least moved the air around, but no cooling. The windows were all sealed shut, even though the hotel is in a historic building and they should have been openable. Thus we sweated through the night even sleeping with the fan on and without using the comforter. The room was no cooler in the morning although it had cooled off considerably outside. Additionally the wifi was pretty poor (rhere was an option to buy better) and the coffee was Nescafe sachets. These are the kinds of things I expect in a £60 hotel room, but not in one costing three times as much."
