Explore the historic Heybridge Basin where the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation meets the Blackwater Estuary for scenic walks and waterside dining. Nearby Maldon offers the chance to sail aboard traditional Thames barges or visit Promenade Park with its ornamental lake and adventure playgrounds.
The hotel as a whole and the location was great for our needs. The decor is fantastic and there is clearly no expense spared. Great value for money and breakfast was top draw.
It is of very high standard and the staff couldn't have been anymore friendly.
Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

This was a last-minute getaway for me and my wife. We have four young kids and two older ones, and the youngest had been poorly, so we weren’t going to go. But we found this property and decided to book for one night. Although it was a little further than I would usually like for a one-night stay, it was absolutely worth it.
Shannon has done an amazing job with the place — the pictures really don’t do it justice. The bed was super comfy, and the room was so spacious. It had everything you...

Very nice room, bed was a little short for me at over 6 foot tall, but not the end of the world. Staff were very pleasant. Would definitely stay again if I was in the area

From start to finish a truly memorable experience in every good way
We had a 3 night break due to a wedding and was using the jolly sailor-fish on the quay as a central base for the wedding and all activities in the area
We were greeted by variety with a lovely smile and helpful attitude and were asked if we wanted to go straight up to our room or would prefer a sit down and a drink first and as I had just driven for about an hour chose the latter took a look at the menu and also chose to have a...

A warm welcome on our arrival and was checked in quickly and escorted to our room. Staff were terrific, dinner plentiful, warm ambience and fairly busy.
The room is small but fine for one night and price. The only thing was the headboard in room 2 was flaking off. Such an easy fix but very visible when you first walk in - an impression that makes you think what else is wrong here. Also a couple of cleaning products left in room. Again, not a big deal, but careless. Would recommend to stay for a...

Lovely stay as always for a family birthday meet up celebration. The pools and leisure centre are heavenly, especially when the sun comes out. Real holiday vibes in the outdoor pool area.
Restaurant food and service exceptional.
Only criticism this stay was that the rooms were far too hot at night, couldn't control the radiator heat!

The Woolpack is simply the best Inn that I’ve stayed at. Gorgeous building (complete with ghost?). Staff that are genuinely friendly, a pub packed with locals that must be the friendliest in the Country. I was lucky to be there for Thursday night karaoke… honestly I’ve arranged my diary to be there on Thursdays. If you like an authentic pub, great food, superbly comfortable accommodation and a strong community spirit.. (and maybe a ghostly nun).. then this is the best place to stay!
