Pocket Guide: Halifax Halifax Town Hall Hotels

The landscapes of West Yorkshire are scattered with picturesque villages and great industrial towns. The county attracts visitors from far and wide throughout the year. They come to enjoy a great variety of sports in the varied scenery, which covers the spectrum from Ilkley Moor in the far north to the lower slopes of the mighty Pennines farther east, and with a multitude of deep river valleys for white-water rafting and similar vigorous pursuits.

The industrial heritage of this region is also well known, with many buildings having been erected on the profits of trade in the textile industry. Cities such as Halifax and Bradford are a case in point, and if you're anywhere in the area you should visit Halifax's magnificent Town Hall from your West Yorkshire hotel if at all possible.

When you pay a visit from your West Yorkshire hotel you'll find that the 19th-century Town Hall in Halifax is a masterpiece of the classical architectural style. It is built entirely out of sandstone and is a showcase for sculptures by John Thomas, the famous English Victorian sculptor renowned for his pieces on Classical themes. The interiors were designed by the architect Sir James Barry, best known for his work on the Houses of Parliament at Westminster. The Town Hall's opening in 1863 was attended by the future King Edward VII when he was still HRH the Prince of Wales.
