"The hotel is on top of a hill surrounded by trees. Breakfast buffet is excellent with lots of variety, the pool and surrounding area is very well kept and has both kids and adult sections. The staff is very friendly and helpful in getting everything arranged. The restaurant also can be recommended. There is not much around it so using tax or public transport is necessary. But doing tours to Pompeii, Herculaneum or Capri is not a problem"

"Spacious and well equipped rooms, very quiet. Excellent breakfast selection. Great location if you’re happy to take a short train ride in to town - it’s easy once you figure out that the line 2 “metro” is really a local train service from a normal looking overground station about 5min walk from hotel. Only downside is I didn’t find many restaurant options locally, but you could eat in town and get train back, they are very frequent."

"The location of the Excelsior is superb, overlooking the Bay of Naples. If you have the port side rooms you wake up to Vesuvius across the Bay and can watch its many moods throughout the day. On the roof top terrace you can watch the lights turn on in the city and see Vesuvius become a presence that is hard to ignore. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, and we needed it after 12 days of negotiating the cobblestone streets of the Amalfi Coast, averaging 6 miles a day, and we're senior citizens! This hotel holds a special place in my heart. The breakfast alone is worth staying here! The staff was super nice. The hotel is a piece of old Italian luxury and has to be experienced."
