Any of the activities below sound fun? Like the cabin? *Book now before someone else snags it!
1. Bike Through Cades Cove Of all the things to do around Gatlinburg, the most popular is a visit to Cades Cove. This beautiful little mountain valley is tucked in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and was once a thriving community. A number of rustic log cabins, cantilever barns, and grist mills are still preserved which gives Cades Cove a quaint air of times past.
An 11-mile one-way loop runs through Cades Cove allowing you to tour it by car, bicycle, or on foot. Because Cades Cove is so popular, you can expect there to be lots of traffic during the summer months and in the fall when the leaves are changing color around Gatlinburg.
The best way to see Cades Cove is, without a doubt, by bicycle. The Cades Cove loop road allows only bicycles (and foot traffic) before 10:00am on Saturday mornings and Wednesday mornings from May to September.
2. Drive to Newfound Gap Another popular activity in Gatlinburg is to drive through the national park to Newfound Gap, which is split between Tennessee in North Carolina. While there, you can stand with one foot on each side of the Tennessee-North Carolina state line. The mountain pass sits at an elevation of 5,046 feet so you’ll have fabulous views of the foothills below. The Appalachian Trail also runs right through Newfound Gap, so if you have ever dreamed of hiking part of the AT, now is your opportunity. If you start hiking northeast on the Appalachian Trail you’ll reach Charles Bunion in ~4 miles. Or if you head southwest on the AT for 7.5 miles, you’ll reach Clingman’s Dome, the highest point in the state of Tennessee.
3. See the View from Clingman’s Dome From Newfound Gap you can continue heading up the windy mountain road to Clingman’s Dome. At 6,643 feet, Clingman’s Dome is the highest point in Tennessee and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi River. From the Clingman’s Dome parking lot, it’s a half-mile walk on a paved trail to the top of the mountain where a long spiraling concrete ramp leads up to an observation deck from which you can enjoy the spectacular views. On a clear day, you can enjoy up to 100 miles of visibility from the top of Clingman’s Dome.
The 23-mile drive to Clingman’s Dome from downtown Gatlinburg can take over an hour with traffic so make sure you plan accordingly. There is also limited parking at the top. It’s best to arrive early in the day so you’re not stuck waiting for a parking spot.
Clingman’s Dome Winter Road Closure:
The final 7-mile stretch of road to Clingman’s Dome is closed from December 1st until March 31st. It may also be closed if there has been recent snowfall or cold temperatures. In the winter, there is significantly more snow at this elevation than there is in Gatlinburg.
4. Take a Hike Our favorite thing to do in Gatlinburg is to get out in nature and take a hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Smokies have over 600 miles of trails offering sweeping panoramic views, cascading waterfalls and more. Some of the best day hikes in the Smoky Mountains include:
Laurel Falls (2.6 miles roundtrip): The hike to Laurel Falls is one of the most popular in the park. The entire trail is paved so you’ll find it’s possible even for those with limited mobility. This hike does get crowded so it’s best to do it early in the morning or right before sunset.
Grotto Falls (2.8 miles roundtrip): Grotto Falls is a popular hike that is also relatively short and easy and is also on a well-maintained trail. This beautiful hike takes you directly behind a waterfall for a breathtaking experience.
Chimney Tops (3.3 miles roundtrip): The Chimney Tops trail is one of the Smokies’ most iconic hikes. It’s a short hike and offers amazing views at the top, but don’t be fooled by the relatively short distance this hike covers. The last mile has an elevation gain of over 800 feet making it a strenuous climb to the top. The Chimney Tops themselves were closed after the huge Gatlinburg fire of 2016, but a new viewing platform has been built where the trail currently ends.
Alum Cave (4.4 miles roundtrip): One of our favorite hikes in the Smokies, the Alum Cave trail starts on Newfound Gap Road and follows Alum Cave Creek before heading up towards Mount LeConte. You’ll hike through a rock tunnel known as Arch Rock, and at the end of your hike you’ll reach Alum Cave which is actually an 80-foot tall concaved bluff you can rest under before heading back down.
5. Drive the Roaring Fork Motor Trail The Roaring Fork Motor Trail is one of the most popular drives through the national park. This one-way loop is only 5.5 miles long, but it is a narrow winding road with lots of places you’ll want to stop to explore and take pictures. Most people take around 2 hours to drive through the entire trail.
For the best experience, it’s best to stop at one of the park’s visitor centers beforehand to pick up the National Park Service’s guidebook to the Roaring Fork Motor Trail. It’s only $1 and contains information on the flora and fauna of this area, as well as the history of the community that existed here before it was displaced by the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Towards the second half of the drive, you’ll encounter log cabins, grist mills, and a church that are all very well-preserved and quite interesting to visit. You’ll also drive past the Place of a Thousand Drips which is one of only two waterfalls in the national park that you can drive to.
6. See the Fireflies Once a relatively unknown natural phenomenon, seeing the Smoky Mountain’s synchronous fireflies has now become a major bucket list item for many visitors to Gatlinburg. The Smoky Mountains just happen to be home to the Western Hemisphere’s largest population of synchronous fireflies (Photinus Carolinus).
It’s hard to do this unique experience justice with words, but you can imagine thousands of tiny lightning bugs all lighting up simultaneously in a visually stunning mating ritual. You can only see them for about 2-3 weeks each summer, typically at the end of May to the beginning of June.
The best way to see them is to book a campsite at Elkmont Campground, just a 25-minute drive from downtown Gatlinburg. Reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance online or by calling. It’s impossible to predict the exact time that the fireflies will put on their show but planning on the first day of June will be your best bet.

A simply beautiful cabin. The layout of this cabin is perfect! The kitchen and bathrooms are stocked with everything we needed. The views are beautiful and the windows provide a gorgeous view from inside. We will return to this cabin.
We had a great stay. There were plenty of towels and blankets and we loved the bath amenities. The cabin was beautiful. The host was very friendly when I brought up a concern to her. I would stay here again.
We stayed for a long 4 day weekend trip! The cabin was clean and had the best views. We highly recommended staying at this cabin if you want to be away from all the crowds. Very peaceful area just up the road from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, or The Smoky Mountain Park.
Amazing cabin with great views, very clean & was fully stocked. Perfect location far enough out but not to far from the surrounding towns. Mira was very responsive host, thanks for the stay:)
The house was very clean, and had everything we needed for our stay. The view of the mountains everyday was just what we needed as a family! Close drive to all the hiking and tourist spots.
We stayed here during our spring break and the house was perfect! The kids enjoyed the game and movie room after our long days in town and hikes. The house was very clean when we arrived and the property manager was very responsive with questions! We would definitely stay again!
Mira was absolutely amazing from the time we rented until check out. The cabin was a great location to all activities we had planned for our short stay. It was super nice not to have to pack the babies pack n play nor a high chair because that was all provided. We also brought our dog along who also had a great time. Thanks again for hosting us 😊
We loved staying at Diamond in the Bluff! The kids really enjoyed the air hockey table, Mira was really great to work with, and the house was beautiful; clean and well-maintained. My only complaint is there is a house right in front of it, paritially obstructing the view (no fault of the owner!), and I wish the rail on the bunk bed was higher.
Great stay everything was as described… our group consisted 5 teenage boys and they stayed active with the pool table, air hockey and swimming pool that was open… )resort has access to 3 pools but 2 were pad locked) but the one open was great and even it had to ourself for the most part! Would recommend Diamond in the Bluff! Great family atmosphere; plus located at end of the clear which offered more space for boys and our dog
We booked this cabin by mistake , usually do pet friendly and almost cancelled. So glad we kenneled the dogs and came anyway. The location of this cabin was perfectly located in-between downtown Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. It was meticulously clean and had everything we needed. We had 2 college kids with us and 2 teenagers. We all had plenty of space to not drive each other crazy. The beds were all incredibly comfortable and the cabin was perfect for us. Would definitely stay here again.
Everything was just right!First of all , the road to the house needs to be driven by an experienced driver. When you get there, you raise along a curvy road to a magnificent view with a few homes around you. We only saw neighbors once so it is pretty private. I was a little surprised by the telephone pole in our view from the deck. The pictures are strategically taken to hide the telephone pole. Still, the view is amazing. The house was clean! That is so important to us and is nice to walk into. The hosts have everything you need for a nice stay. The kitchen is adequately stocked with pots, pans, plates, dishes, and items like paper towels, dish soap, and just the right amount of things you might need. The bedrooms are comfortable and, again, clean. The decor was fun. The downstairs has air hockey and pool table along with a theatre and bunkbeds. They are all in one space which worked fine for us. Just be aware you wouldn’t be able to have kids sleep and play games.,,,The upstairs is awesome with a nice bedroom and bathroom. The sitting area is comfortable. The view is great. The deck and hot tub are perfect and make for a relaxing soak after a day of fun or hiking. Overall, it was just right. I would recommend and stay again.
We had a great time, and Mira was an excellent host! We had a few questions leading up to our stay and she always responded within a few minutes.
For the most part, everything is exactly as described in the listing and photos. I would describe this as a "luxury cabin" but it is a cabin - not a mega mansion.
It is rather cozy, While there are multiple socializing areas (main floor, upstairs loft area, and in the basement), It would be very cramped if you wanted to have more than ~6 people in any one area.
The views of the smoky mountains during sunrise and sunset were absolutely amazing. The leaves were just starting to turn during our stay in mid October.
One final comment:
If you're traveling with more than two couples who want privacy, you might want to know this isn't really a 3 bedroom. There are 2 actual bedrooms (one on the main floor, and one upstairs). The basement / game room has bunk beds and a futon, and there is another futon in the living room area outside the upstairs bedroom, but neither offer any privacy.
We stayed at this cabin with our family over New Year’s Eve, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The cabin was spotless, beautifully decorated, and exactly as described; cozy, spacious, and very welcoming. The layout was perfect for spending quality time together, whether we were cooking meals, playing games, or relaxing by the fire. The surroundings were peaceful and scenic, which made it a perfect place to unplug and truly enjoy the holiday with family. It felt private yet convenient, with everything we needed close by.The host was responsive, thoughtful, and made the entire process seamless. Every detail showed great care for guests’ comfort. We created great memories welcoming the New Year here, and this cabin exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing, family-friendly getaway. We would absolutely stay here again!
Absolutely beautiful cabin and great host. She was very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy time with our family. Great location and stunning views. Thank you!!
This place was fantastic! Up on the top of a mountain! Gorgeous views! And the best part was, I seen a family of bear! Right in the driveway! It was amazing!! We are already planning a trip to return next year at the same time.
Amazing cabin, amazing communicative host! Great quiet location. Super clean. Nicely stocked with everyday essentials and kitchen necessities to cook. Super nice mattresses with upgraded bedding. Pool table, air hockey and theater seating was a nice touch. Definitely a 10 star VRBO cabin. Thank you Mira!!
