Quaint but old

Posted 23-Jul-2017
Location: close to shopping, pubs, everything in Galway within walking distance
Location in middle of town is great for convenience but also noisy at night when sleeping. This is an old hotel in every sense--the rooms look like they haven't been updated since the 1910's which is great for ambience but not for comfort. Mattress was thin and lumpy, pillows were from the 1950's I think. TV set was at least 20 years old. If you like quaint/antique, it's for you, but prepare to give up comfort and conveniences of modern hotel life

Nice hotel just outside of Galway's city center

Posted 08-Jul-2017
Wonderful hotel to stay in- clean and comfortable. The hotel staff is very friendly and the hotel's bar is nice, but small, with live music a few nights a week. The hotel was even nice enough to give me a free upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen for the two nights I was there. The only thing I did not like is the hotel's car park. It's hard to find and there are not a lot of spots, not to mention it can be hard to get out of the lot. Besides that, though, a great place to stay. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Galway.

Great location!

Posted 25-Jun-2017
Pros: Older, big rooms, clean. Parking easy, close to great restaurants. Caprice had great food.Helpful staff, bar adjoining had good live music
Cons: Lighting in bathroom
Location: Restaurants, shopping on a Shop a Street, river walk, train station, pubs.
We enjoyed staying at the Western Hotel. We walked from the train station (not ar) but up the hill by the square. Would get a short taxi next time. Shops close by, walkability to restaurants on Shop Street all close. Coffee Shops, ATM everything you need is near. We had a rental car from Emterprise, but had some problems, they did not pick us up. And they are not in town so we took taxi there. Inconvenient. In all fairness, I think that the a Western recommended Budget, as they are nearby. Live and learn! We drove to ferry (45 min) to Aran Islands rented bikes and loved it! Used hotel as base to get to the Burren, Cliffs of Moher (did 5 km walk...fabulous! Took Paddywagon bus back to car at Cliffs), Bunratty Castle (highlight). The hotel was great! Older, but really clean and parking easy (valet). Valet parking. Lots of space, large rooms, older but clean, good bedding. Ate nearby for breakfast or picked up breakfast croissants at Marks and Spencer's (M&S) around the corner! Good wine selection there too!

Nice hotel - Horrible night staff!

Overall experience was ruined by the rudeness of the night desk person - so rude.

Pros: Location and parking.
Nice hotel centrally located in Galway. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They had a map of the city which was helpful as we walked around. Lots of shops, pubs & restaurants nearby. The hotel has a nice bar also. The night we stayed there, they had live music which was very good.

Good hotel close to town center

Posted 05-Jun-2017
Pros: Rooms, staff, bar.
Cons: It's a little pricey, but that's mostly because their rooms are very large and can accommodate 4 people. For just 2 folks that gets expensive.
Location: Location is just outside of Galway town center, and Galway has a tremendous amount of things to do. Good bars, great music, good food. Easy walk.
Rooms wre very large, clean and comfortable. Hotel staff very helpful. Bar is good, usually with good entertainment.
