We drove in from Voltera to the airport, turned in the car, and took the tram (two Euros) twenty minutes to City Center, and walked three blocks to Hotel California, which itself was only three blocks from the Duomo. Now how is that for convenience? The hotel is a 17th century villa, bought by an American movie star in the early 1950's, and is a fine place to stay while exploring Florence. During our stay, small groups of students, mature travelers, and businesspeople mingled in delightful, chatty conviviality -- no mess, no bother, and no animosity. The food was excellent, the staff was pleasant and helpful, and the view from the roof top terrace (for dinner) was such that we could almost reach out and touch the Duoma! Does it help to say that we will be back next year for a week while our grandchild and her three friends attend ballet classes hosted by the Bolshoi Ballet? Oh wow, what a life!

I liked this place a lot! Very close to the Duomo so it was very central. Staff were kind! The breakfast was also good. There is a rooftop bar with views of the Duomo to enjoy!

The rooms were very clean and the staff attentive, though the hotel needs some attention regarding structural maintenance. There is a musty, stale smell. The breakfast is too simple. However, everything was very clean. The location is excellent.
