Novotel York Centre

Novotel York Centre

8/10 Good
"Bad points out of the way first: Having to pay £18.50 for car parking despite having already paid for a £200+ room for the night is shocking despite being in a prime location. Swimming Pool sessions restricted to 30 minute slots. (See good points for top tip) Pool table needs new cues as they had no tips. Drink prices as expected very expensive. Good points: Location, location, location. A very short and beautiful walk along the river to City centre. Breakfast was nice and plentiful. Booked swimming for the first slot at 7am next morning and as expected was too early for the rest of the hotel so had the pool to ourselves, enabling to stay for over a hour before more guests arrived. Then had the aforementioned breakfast. Room was clean and very comfortable. Staff extremely friendly and helpful, we had arrived much earlier than expected and reception got a room ready for us straight away at 1050, much to our welcomed surprise, to enable us to get on and explore York. In the reception area there was a very good toy area and gaming area for the little ones. (Sadly right next to the exit so we struggled to get our 2 year old past it every time we went to the lobby. Haha) Summary, For a family of 2 adults a 2 year old and 7 year old it was a perfect place, and we would stay here again but we would look around first for other possible cheaper options despite this wonderful location."

"What can I say about this hotel other than it wholly exceeded my expectations. Firstly the location in relation to York rail station couldn't be any more convenient nor indeed to that of the main city centre. The front desk staff as well as those in the restaurant and pool / spa facilities were most friendly and very welcoming and helpful. The facilities were fantastic and our room clean and spacious. Our evening meal was most tasty too. We would love to return again"

"Our welcome was super friendly, Our room spotlessly clean as was the whole hotel. At breakfast we were also met by friendly helpful staff. Breakfast itself was excellent, as much as you wanted and such a choice. On our departure day our transport home was late afternoon but there was no problem leaving our cases at reception meaning we didn’t have to carry them round all day. The location of the hotel was the best for a sightseeing trip to York - Thankyou"

The Parsonage Hotel & Spa

The Parsonage Hotel & Spa

8/10 Good
"The hotel is an attractive old vicarage with a lovely frontage. The coach house is a modern add on which is pleasant and fit for purpose building but dont expect any views. The location is handy for York with a regular bus service outside on the main road however we used Uber taxis which are always nearby and cost not much more than the bus. The hotel has an onsite pub called The Fat Abbot and Spa. The Spa is fantastic and probably the best in the area with Gym, Pool, 4 heat rooms and Jacuzzi. Food in the Fat Abbot is good. My only real criticism is we arrived at the pub for a beer about 10.15 pm and the staff were clearly disappointed to see us. It was evident they all wanted to finish and go home despite the pub stating it was open until 11 pm. I even asked them and they said that they had been there since 8am and wanted to finish. The bar lights were turned off, we downed our drinks quickly and we left. None the less the bar staff were pleasant but we did feel a tad uncomfortable."

"The staff ‘made’ our stay. Everyone was so friendly and took the time to have proper conversations with us. We were very well looked after and we felt that nothing was too much trouble for them. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts and noted that individual variations to the set menu were totally acceptable. We were impressed with the accessibility of the toilets and lift on the ground floor and our accessible room was ideal for our needs."
