Richly historic and beautiful, Dubrovnik is an old city renowned for its famous walls its twisting marble streets. It’s truly a place to find and lose yourself… Situated on the glistening Adriatic Riviera, Dubrovnik has a charm unlike anywhere else in the world. Among the intriguing ancient buildings, a cosmopolitan city thrives with chic boutiques, buzzy bars, little cafes and luxury hotels. Take a walk along the city walls and admire the views beyond the terracotta rooftops and out to sea to appreciate the beauty of Dubrovnik from above.
If you like the views from the walls, you can treat yourself to an even more impressive vista by taking the cable car to the top of Mount Srd. The 4-minute ascent rewards you with spectacular views across Dubrovnik when you reach the top. The Fort Imperial built by Napoleon that stands proudly at the top of the mountain is found here, too, and marks the start of a short and easy hiking trail to Fort Strincjera. Schedule in enough time to have a leisurely coffee or lunch in the café when you get back to Fort Imperial to make the most of the scenery.
To really get to know Dubrovnik and its varied, the city has a collection of excellent museums such as the Archaeological Museum, Maritime Museum and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Spend a delightful day wandering the meandering marble streets and you might happen upon architectural highlights including the St Saviour Church or the Franciscan Monastery, which houses one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe, and the grand Rector’s Palace.
Once feet are sore from sightseeing, Dubrovnik is also home to beaches and hidden coves, most of them pebbly but with a good choice of seafront eateries and water sports. It's worth considering making the 10-minute ferry ride from the Old Harbour to Lokrum, an uninhabited forested island, for its beaches and saltwater lake known as the Dead Sea. You can't come this far and not see it!
Dubrovnik has superb array of hotels tempting visitors to stay a little while longer to enjoy this sophisticated Croatian gem.
