Beautiful hotel, but check-in not so good.

Posted 14-Jul-2017
Pros: Traditional style
Cons: Room description. If it has no view, don't say anything about garden view. Clean rooms on a timely manner or change check-in time to later than 3:00
Location: Within walking distance of major sites and shopping.
Our room was not available at the normal check-in time of 3:00pm. While the staff was nice and offered us coffee and tea while we waited for our room to be cleaned, it took about 45 minutes past the check-in time. The staff member then walked us down to our "garden view room." After all that waiting, we actually got to Dublin at 10:00am, like most overnight flights , only to open the door and have a strong smell (I would describe as cat urine) wafting thru the air. I was wondering how the maid who cleaned the room did not tell management about the odor. We were asked us if we wanted a different room, of course we said we would not be happy staying in this room. So we marched back down to the lobby and sat and waited while he spoke with his manager. By now, another 1/2 an hour went by and we were taken to a different room. It was about the same size and once again, no view of anything in particular, which was fine. I would hate to think that we sat there waiting for the smelly room, while this one sat ready and waiting for no one. Granted I did not splurge on an upgraded room and I thought the hotel was fully booked or I would have gladly paid for a better room instead of sit and wait, but I was not offered another type of room and I don't think visitors should be penalized for getting a standard room. The manager did however send a bottle of "champagne" to our room for the inconvenience. The rest of the stay was fine, but unfortunately first impressions linger.

Could be improved.

Pros: Food
Cons: Lobby needs painting, new carpet and the furniture cleaned or upholstered. Tell guests that what they are getting with handicap room.
Location: Central location was good.
It was supposed to be a superior room. But the room was across from noisy elevators. It was a handicap room with no bathtub and inadequate shower. Beds were comfortable.

Stayed with husband and 2 sons 17 and 14. Booked 2 queen rooms but were upgraded to a king twin room for the boys. Great facilities including the pool and gym and the standard of rooms was excellent.

The place to stay in Dublin

Posted 01-Apr-2017
Pros: The ambiance
Cons: Nothing, it would be to knit pick.
Just lovely, everything we expected but more. Even though the hotel was having renovations, as guest we never knew. This is a five star hotel so don't expect it to be cheap but if you've any doubts, just before we checked in Bill Clinton checked out! (We only stay in the best places you know!!)

Absolutely beautiful

Posted 31-Mar-2017
Pros: Location, amenities, cleanliness, staff.
Cons: Valet Parking.
Location: Many shops and restaurants nearby. St. Stephen's Green very close.
This hotel was amazing. We normally don't stay in places this nice but it was our last night in Dublin so we decided to splurge a little. The hotel was in a great location, very close to St. Stephen's green and many restaurants. The interior was impeccable and the staff made you feel like royalty. I did feel a little uncomfortable because as I mentioned, this place was pretty upscale for us and I felt a little low-class, but the staff had nothing to do with this, it was simply my own feelings. When we got to our room, I was looking through the hotel information book and it does state that they have a "smart casual" dress code in the hotel. We were in jeans and sneakers because we had been sightseeing in Dublin all day, but nobody made us feel uncomfortable due to this. Make sure you have some cash to tip because they will help you with everything. Valet parking was a big of a nightmare. The parking area is very small and we had to park so far back that they couldn't even see us and we had to call inside. Our car was practically hanging out in the middle of a busy road. They were very apologetic about this though.

Merrion hotel

Great location Everything in walking distance. Staff pandering to every need , which perhaps was a little to much at times.
