Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Donisi?
Whilst Donisi itself is a small, traditional Calabrian village, the best area to stay for most visitors is along the coast in Soverato or in the nearby hills of Davoli Superiore for a more secluded experience.

Soverato, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Ionian Sea," is a bustling seaside town just a short drive from Donisi. It boasts a long, sandy beach great for relaxing and swimming, particularly along the Lungomare Europa. The town centre, with its pedestrianised streets, offers a good selection of restaurants, shops, and gelato bars. This area is ideal for families looking for easy access to the beach and amenities, with plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained.

For those seeking a more tranquil setting with stunning views, Davoli Superiore is an excellent choice. Perched in the hills above the coast, this historic village offers a peaceful escape from the livelier coastal towns. You'll find charming local eateries and panoramic vistas of the Ionian Sea and surrounding countryside. Couples often appreciate the quiet evenings and romantic atmosphere, with opportunities for scenic walks and exploring traditional Calabrian life.
When is the best time to go to Donisi?
The best time to go to Donisi is during the shoulder seasons of May, June, and September.

These months offer warm, pleasant weather superb for exploring the region without the peak summer crowds. You'll find the temperatures ideal for outdoor activities like hiking in the Sila National Park or enjoying the local beaches. The sea is also warm enough for swimming during this period.

For couples seeking a relaxing getaway, May and September are particularly appealing. The fewer crowds mean a more tranquil experience at popular sites and easier access to restaurants and local events. It's a fantastic time to enjoy leisurely drives through the countryside, stopping at charming villages and vineyards.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate June. The weather is consistently sunny and warm, making it superb for beach days or exploring the adventure parks in the Sila mountains.
