On arrival, checked in and told would be staying in the less-than-appealing-looking block the other side of the road (no reception, bar or pool or anything there). Then told am staying in a room on fourth floor and then told the lift is not working. There was no email about this in advance, or message via Expedia. This was not a problem but the fact they had not even bothered to check or update me in advance was lazy practice by Mercure management. The feeling it left me with was that they did not really care about having me as a guest and that feeling persisted the next time I interacted with a member of staff in check-out; who did not even bother to ask me how my stay was. It just gave the impression of a hotel where the culture is one of not really being that bothered at all about customer service. So I can also say that my room smelt of drains, had to phone for the WiFi password, the bed was uncomfortable, the two pillows provided had the structural integrity of a melting block of ice and ice would have been nice as, inevitably, the air conditioner did not work. The hotel did offer me a free drink at the bar on arrival because the lift was broken. The bar was unstaffed at that point, so meaningless. Book elsewhere.
