"The rental was nearly perfect for our family get away. We had a toddler and two infants, and as you can imagine, three bedrooms were great! We even had up to six adults and an additional two kids over for the day and we did not feel cramped at all. The location was excellent - a half mile from the beach, close to shopping and a children's museum. We didn't have to put the kids in the car the entire stay. The pool was clean and truly great for our family. The babies even napped poolside a bit. We didn't participate on the resort activities, but the check in process was smooth and we were able to easily enter our room. My complaints are somewhat minor and has to do with cleanliness - the master bathroom ceiling had mold and the baseboards and nooks and crannies were in need of better dusting. We did have some trouble with the dining table since the chairs didn't actually fit the table, but again very minor. The guest service was excellent and all instructions were super clear starting at booking. Final thought - WE WILL BOOK AGAIN!!"

Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island

8/10 Good

"The resort is beautiful. It’s on the ocean with one adult pool and a family/children’s pool. We ate at the main restaurant twice and it was probably a seven out of 10. Very nice weight staff though. The pool bar actually had excellent food in a beautiful setting. The access to the beach was very good and very scenic. Unfortunately, we had problems every day with our room key being demagnetized, and after three days, I asked to be switched to a different room which they did, and gave us a nicer view, but it wasn’t clean. The bathroom tub had someone else’s hair in it, and the water wouldn’t go down in the tub. Maintenance came up the next morning and snaked the tub, only to throw the mess into the toilet and not even flush it. It was disgusting. Then for the rest of the week, our sink in the bathroom was clogged, obviously from all the hair that was flushed down the toilet. Our phone from day one had a red message light that blinked constantly. We asked the front desk to help and they sent up a man who said he couldn’t get the red light off. He didn’t know how and that the phones don’t work because they were supposed to be upgraded soon. Then we had to get a separate man upstairs to reset our safe that didn’t work. The maids did clean the sheets and do the towels, fine, but any extra cleaning on floor ceilings or rugs wasn’t seen. I feel like it was off-season and perhaps short staffed. Cleanliness, low rating, resort itself, beautiful."

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Colleton River Plantation?

The best time to visit Colleton River Plantation is during the shoulder seasons, specifically from March to May and September to November, when the weather is most pleasant for outdoor activities.

During these months, you'll experience comfortable temperatures, typically ranging from the high 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit (20-28 Celsius), with less humidity than the peak summer months. This makes it ideal for enjoying the plantation's golf courses, tennis courts, and walking trails without the intense heat.

For those looking to make the most of the outdoor amenities, particularly golf enthusiasts, these periods offer excellent playing conditions. The courses are immaculately maintained, and the cooler weather makes for a more enjoyable round.

Families might find the spring particularly appealing, as the warmer days are great for exploring the natural surroundings and enjoying activities like kayaking or paddleboarding in the calmer waters.
