Large old updated hotel. Great location.

Brand new bathroom was very nice, comfortable bed. Requested a quiet room and got a quiet wing of a floor.

Pros: Location, location, location
The rooms have been recently updated. Nice showers! Beds comfortable but take your own pillows! Check in staff very nice, bartender not so good, doormen unfriendly if you use uber!

Good location, decent place, so-so cafe

Posted 25-Nov-2016
Pros: Location!
Cons: Shower design, cafe' service.
Location: Oak Street shops, Michigan Avenue, John Hancock Center, Contemporary Museum of Art, Water Tower Place, Northwestern Univ Hospital.
Spent a weekend here and the location is great, right near the Hancock Center and 1/2 block from Michigan Ave. This older but refurbished hotel is a very reasonable choice, and the staff overall was helpful. The rooms are small (as expected in this location) but comfortable and useable. HVAC in the room was very hard to adjust, nor could we get the fan to work at all well, so the room was quite stuffy much of the time. Beds are comfortable, as are the furnishings. Our shower layout was poorly designed but worked well once you doused yourself while getting the water running. Our only problem was with the cafe' on the main level. Poorly organized, poor service (very poor!) and not worth the prices. Zip around the corner to the Hilton or across to the Drake instead. In all fairness, the Food and Beverage manager did reply to our comment about the poor cafe' service, but warning to others!

Staff acceptable except for service in attached cafe- that was below par. Food in cafe very over priced for what it was.

Perfect hotel for shopping in Chicago

Posted 19-Nov-2016
Pros: Location
Location: Shops on Michigan Ave, Oak and Rush Streets.
The hotel is in a great location, you can walk to all shops and restaurants in Chicago. The hotel is an icon in Chicago, it is old but well kept. The staff in the reception was nice but in the front they were terrible. They never opened those heavy doors to guests to come in and out with their suitcases, it happened to us and I noticed with others too. The elevators are really old but working well. The room is large, the bed was ok, the bathroom was clean and new, but the heater was very loud and kept waking me up at night. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was really good.

Excellent service. Nice staff at the desk. At the bar, seemed the two bartenders did not get along and one was making it clear by being very rude to the other.
