When to book flights to Dubai

The climate in Dubai can be divided into roughly two seasons: hot and hotter. During the European summer months, temperatures in Dubai regularly top 40˚C and humidity hovers around 90%. These toasty conditions are perfect if you’re looking to defrost after a long, cold winter, however they can make walking around, sightseeing and even sunbathing a bit of a challenge.

During the European winter months – November to March – temperatures tumble to a balmy 27˚C and humidity also drops. This makes the season a lot more pleasant for those not accustomed to desert life. January to March is also the rainy season in this Middle Eastern metropolis. However, with precipitation peaking at 1.4 inches in February, you’re unlikely to see many downpours during your stay.

The (slightly) cooler winter months are peak tourist season in the emirate and flights to Dubai from London and other northern European destinations can be busy. But, with more and more airlines flying direct to the destination, finding cheap flights to Dubai should be possible throughout the year.

How to find the best flight deals to Dubai

During Dubai’s peak tourist season, flights to the emirate can go up in price with increased demand pushing up costs. In the summer months, flights to Dubai are often cheaper and many hotels in the emirate are quieter. This can make it easier to find cheap flight deals to Dubai and means you’ll get the beach to yourself when you arrive.

As the national carrier, Emirates’ flights to Dubai are among the most competitively priced. However cheap flights to Dubai from UK airports are available from a number of airlines so make sure you shop around before you book.

Use the Expedia search bar to find a choice of flights to Dubai and to compare prices on the various options available. Simply type your details into the search bar, select your dates and the number of people travelling and you’ll be shown the best value flight options on offer. Choose from direct and indirect flights and use the filters to further hone your results.

Dubai International Airport

Dubai International Airport is positioned very close to the city centre with many hotels located within a 20-minute drive of the terminal. The third busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic, it’s the home hub of Emirates Airline, the national carrier of Dubai. Once you touch down in the emirate you can continue your journey by bus, metro or taxi. Many hotels also offer shuttle services from the terminal so check before you travel.

Which airlines fly to Dubai?

Direct and indirect Dubai flights are available from a number of different carriers.

These include:

  • Emirates
  • Quantas
  • Royal Brunei Airlines
  • British Airways
  • Etihad
  • Virgin Atlantic
  • Turkish Airlines
  • Kuwait Airlines
  • Oman Air
  • KLM
  • Lufthansa

How to get around in Dubai

Dubai has a fairly extensive public transport system, so you should find getting around fairly easy. The Dubai Metro links many of the main hotels with the city’s top sights while trams, buses and water buses connect areas the metro doesn’t reach. Taxis are also readily available in the emirate. But, if you’re based in Dubai Marina, Downtown Dubai, historic Bur Dubai and Deira, you can get around fairly easily on foot as long as the desert sun isn’t too hot.

Must-see attractions in Dubai

The most famous attraction in Dubai is the lofty Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Standing at a vertigo-inducing 828m, the skyscraper features an observation deck, a high-end hotel, the Dubai Mall, an aquarium, an ice rink and a theme park. The attraction is easily accessible via the Dubai Metro (the red line stops just outside) while a number of hotels offer free shuttles to the world-famous site.

If you want to see a different side of Dubai, visit Bastakia, the city’s old quarter. Built in the late 19th century to house wealthy Persian merchants, the district’s narrow lanes and traditional architecture form a stark contrast to the glitz and glamour of the modern city.

Tips for travelling in Dubai

Like Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE, Dubai is four hours ahead of the UK.

Travellers flying to Dubai from Britain can obtain a visa on arrival in the emirate which will allow them to stay in the country for up to 30 days.

the thing that really annoyed me about gulf air is their policy for onboard baggage. yes great you can take two bags but this nonsense that my bag has to have 6kg is pathetic. I never checked in any bags therefore I should be allowed at least 10kg in my carry on bag. this nonsense that it is a heath and safety issue is rubbish. the combined bags in the overhead lockers is hundreds of kgs. even ryan air and easy jet which are low cost don't act like this.

Disappointed to have to pay extra to select seats

Apr 18, 2018

In and out flights 48 hr booking in is a complete farce. On both occasions five minutes pass the 48hr time all seats booked. I have two knee replacements so an aisle seat is much needed for myself.
