About this property
The Bird House ~ A modern treehouse in the forest ~ 15 minutes from downtown
This modern treehouse is a unique space where luxury meets nature. You'll find everything you need to enjoy a very comfortable stay surrounded by acres of forest just 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga.
Nested at our nature reatreat, The Bird House welcomes you to enjoy a one of a kind retreat in a modern treehouse. Woodland trails on 30+ acres meander throughout the property and two nearby creeks offer seasonal (rainfall dependent) swimming holes and exploration. This distinctive spot is both a place of respite for those seeking time in nature and conveniently located to downtown Chattanooga. It's a perfect place for couples and families looking to escape or explore all Chattanooga has to offer.
The Bird House, entirely your own to enjoy, is two distinct cabins joined by a covered porch. One side of the cabin offers a massive king-size bed, smart TV, and a bathroom with a gorgeous walk-in shower. The other side has a modern kitchen with a vintage flair that's well appointed for all your culinary needs as well as a living room with a smart TV and a full-size pull-out couch. Both sides have beautiful forest and mountain views!
The Space: The Bird House is nested between boulders and trees on more than 30 acres of forest. And our backyard is Prentice Cooper State Forest with its 25,000 acres of semi-protected land.
We have trails throughout the property to explore. There are two nearby creeks that offer seasonal (rainfall dependent) blue hole swimming. Sulphur Branch, the creek just behind The Bird House, is easy to access. And Suck Creek, a local favorite, is just on the other side of Suck Creek road from the property.
A large fire pit with boulder benches is in the front yard for fireside chats and marshmallow roasting. We also have a gas grill ready for you.
We hosted a small forest school for children in the Chattanooga area for 3 years, but it has since moved off the property. You can still see their outdoor classrooms if you wonder the property.
Guest Access: You are free to roam the entire property, exploring the trails and creeks throughout.
The Bird House is one of four cabins on our property where our family has been working for years to create a rare space for our guests to enjoy. Each cabin was either built by us from local materials or remodeled by us to be a unique space for you to experience. Born and raised here in Chattanooga, this land is the place we choose to raise our children - surrounded by nature and the incredible beauty of the Tennessee River Gorge.
There are two devoted parking spaces with motion sensor lights at The Bird House as well as plenty of overflow parking nearby.
Other Details to Note: Please note, some road noise can be expected here at The Bird House as the cabin is next to a main thoroughfare. Sulphur Branch creek also runs just behind the cabin, so you can anticipate sounds of rushing water. We have a sound machine at the cabin for your use.
Please take note of the layout of Bird House. The bathroom has an open floorplan where an accent wall (without a door) separates the bathroom from the bedroom. There is no lack of privacy, however, as both sides of Bird House can be curtained & closed.
All the water for The Bird House is filtered from a pristine spring and tastes wonderful (like nothing at all really), so there's no need to bring bottled water. We have a whole house filter in place as well as a Brita water pitcher in the fridge.
We have a tankless water heater so each guest can enjoy hot showers! And each side of The Bird House has its own mini split unit to perfectly control the heat & air inside.
We straddle the Eastern and Central time zones. Be aware that cell phones may alternate between the two when in this area, but we abide by Eastern Standard Time (as does Chattanooga).
Again, water levels for all our local creeks are dependent on the amount of recent rainfall. Even if dry, they're beautiful to explore!

My family and I had a fantastic weekend here to reset after the holidays. The property is close to the city for restaurants and activities but set in a nice wooded location with plenty of trails/waterfalls to explore.
Chattanooga Cottage was an absolute hidden treasure! The cottage was beautiful, cozy, and in the perfect location. It was very close to downtown, restaurants, and everything we needed during our stay. We loved that so many hiking trails were nearby, with some right behind the property. My husband has been dealing with Lyme disease, and thankfully he's doing much better. This trip gave us exactly what we needed, peace, relaxation, and quality time together. We enjoyed slowing down, exploring nature, and simply enjoying each other's company. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy all that Chattanooga has to offer. We would definitely stay here again!
We stayed for 27 days. Great location, loved the natural setting. Suited our needs perfectly. Susanna was a great host. Checked in once a week to see if we needed anything. Not a fan of the open bathroom to bedroom concept but knew from the good description what we were getting. So we worked it out ok. Would stay here again.

The Bird House is a lovely little getaway. I highly recommend for anyone that is wanting to experience the outdoors but still have their favorite amenities! Lots of things to do and explore in the area!
The Birdhouse is a wonderful little place tucked away by the Tennessee River! Peaceful and relaxing. Spent 5 nights visiting the Chattanooga area. Great location to all things outdoors, downtown shopping & attractions in the area! 5 stars all around on communication and cleanliness! Would stay again!
Very lovely place snuggled in the woods, peaceful and quiet. Went for a relaxing getaway and got just that at the Birdhouse. Enjoyed our visit very much!
Was a perfect stay for me, my mother, and my sister in law. Very nice location. Comfy bed. Only complaint is there is no door to the bathroom, but luckily the cabin is split into 2 sides so you can have your friends/family go to the other side!
The sleeping part of the cabin did have a smell and was a bit uncomfortable and the living room and kitchen part of the cabin wouldn't lock up butt other than that it was a wonderful cabin.
This is a nature emersion experience, with provision for every need. Nestled in the woods with a creek flowing nearby, the Birdhouse is a modern cabin designed to offer peace, comfort and natural beauty. The kitchen is well-equipped, the bed is comfortable, and the deck is a perfect spot to sit and enjoy nature. There are acres of trails to explore on the property with other trails, creeks, waterfalls and rock hopping fun within a mile. It is also 10-15 minutes from all things Chattanooga, including restaurants, museums and all the outdoor activities the city is known for! We highly recommend!
