About this property
Valinor Ranch - Container Home on 35 Private Acres Facing Mt. Sopris
There is a shelf of ranch land above the Roaring Fork Valley where the road stops climbing and the sky takes over. Missouri Heights sits roughly a thousand feet above the valley floor. From here you look directly south at Mt. Sopris, and the Elk Mountain Range is always in the frame.
Valinor Ranch is thirty-five acres of that land. Horse farms and working ranches sit on every side, and the small roads up here belong mostly to the people who live on them. The pace is set by the light and the seasons, and it doesn't take long to fall into step with it.
The home was designed to do one thing well: put the landscape in the room. It's a repurposed container structure, modern and deliberately uncluttered, built to sit lightly on the land rather than impose on it. Large picture windows face south, and nothing inside competes with what is outside them. It is a frame, and the view is what it was built to hold.
Upstairs, the primary bedroom has a California king, an ensuite bath, and Mt. Sopris waiting in the window at first light. The second bedroom has a queen, with a full bath on the main floor just down the spiral staircase. Each room has a small desk for the days work comes along, and electric shades for the mornings the mountains can wait.
The upper deck takes the morning sun. Downstairs, the living room and a compact kitchen built for real cooking share the same southern outlook, with the Whole Foods in Willits eight minutes away for whatever the week calls for.
Outside, Adirondack chairs face Mt. Sopris from the patio, beside a propane grill and a fire pit set on concrete. The hot tub sits under open sky at 104°F.
Evenings are where the altitude shows itself. When the light drops off the ridge, the valley goes to shadow while the Heights keeps the last of it. Then the stars come out in a way they no longer do in most places. On clear nights the Milky Way runs ridge to ridge, and in August the Perseids cross the whole sky.
Mule deer and elk move across the property. The horses next door are constant company, and bald eagles hold the high branches. Dogs are welcome here, with thirty-five acres of open ground and bowls and beds ready on arrival.
Radiant floor heating in winter, screened windows and air conditioning in summer, Wi-Fi built for video calls, and a washer and dryer make the home as suited to a month as to a weekend.
Booking here means your stay is arranged directly with the people who know this land, from the first message to the last morning. No platform in between, just the Ranch and the view it was built to frame.
Reserve your stay.
GOOD TO KNOW
You will need a vehicle. This is ranch country, and the small winding roads of the Heights are part of its character. In winter, choose 4×4 or snow tires. If you can, plan your first arrival before dark; the roads are unlit and the turn is easier to find in daylight.
The spiral staircase connects both floors and may not suit guests with limited mobility, very young children or small dogs.
Check-in is self-serve with a keypad. Your code and directions arrive on the morning of check-in. Two exterior cameras cover the driveway and carport only.
Dogs are welcome for a non-refundable fee of $150 for up to two dogs.
